Have they stopped selling VCR's in India? I check several shops &
none of them seem to carry VCR's. I am looking for either a plain
VCR or a VCR/DVD Player Combo - does anyone know shops which
carry them?

well, in india VCDs (not DVDs) are replacing cassettes as the common man's media, so wud find more VCD players than VCRs (VCD writers are dirt cheap too). even video libraries stock more VCDs than cassettes and u hardly get cassettes in big music shops...its all VCD or DVD.Tron wrote:I am sure that internationally, VCR's are still made & used. There is still no reasonably priced replacement for a VCR. A DVD Recorder is rather expensive & costs 5 times or more than a VCR. So what is the supposed replacement for a VCR because of which Indian Electronic Companies have stopped manufacturing VCR's? Once DVD Recorders become cheap enough, I think VCR will die, but as of today it's rather silly to stop manufacturing VCR's.

it has not stopped being made or sold here...its only that common man has stopped using VCRs and cassettes. It makes no sense for dealers to stock them these days.Tron wrote:...I think it's very very premature to stop selling VCR's.
And that is why it hasn't happened anywhere in the world, not even in
the USA, where (http://www.tivo.com) TIVO is actually a replacement for a VCR.
