Let's just take god and religion out of the equation for a minute...

Let's say you have an older brother Every day he walks you to school to make sure you get there o.k.. At lunch time he meets you at your class, and makes sure you eat all your lunch and perhaps makes you get a jumpstart on that homework. After school he meets you at your class again and the two of you go to the playground. You brother is always watching you making sure that you are behaving yourself, but also to have your back if you get in trouble. If you are unsure about something, big brother is there to answer your questions for you.

You brother's presence is very comforting to you, but it is also restrictive. You constantly have to rethink your actions, to judge yourself in your brother's eyes. It limits your expression, your interactions, and your ability to make your own decisions. You are so busy trying to correct yourself to fit into your brother's image of what is right, your haven't thought for yourself who it is who you want to be. Take your big brother out of the equation; you are forced to make your own decisions, to face the consequences of your own decisions, without any back up. You grow by making your own mistakes, by exhibiting courage, by molding yourself into the person that you want to be, and by searching for your own answers. You understand yourself better and you become your own best friend. There is no doubt of whether you are living your life correctly because you are living it by your own standards. Freedom to choose for yourself makes you all that you can be.

well. i believe the more pertinent question is does god really exist??

but seriously though, the worst moment for an atheist is when he's really happy and has noone to thank for it. :)

its not as much as about a God being out there as it is about whether u choose to believe or not, whether u choose to have faith and use that faith to be a strength/foundation to build bigger things out of rather than a crutch u fall back on to blame ur failures upon.

Actually Dil = Heart, maange = asks (for) More = More

When an atheist is really happy he thanks whoever was responsible for making him happy. Why thank an "imaginary sky pixie" (not my phrase, just borrowed)?

Most people dont choose to have faith. It is ingrained into their psyche by family, society, education and inputs from sources like television and movies (notice I did not say books, because a lot of times books tend to do just the opposite).

I feel that anything build on a foundation of faith is pretty flimsy because faith itself is a belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. Faith is believing in something inspite of evidence to the contrary. To base one's whole life on a belief that itself has not base is quite scary.

i hate see this thread turn meaningful, but GA has a point.

I just can't see how you can choose to believe something, you either do or you don't. so if i die and i was wrong to not believe in god and he pokes me and says why didn't you believe in my? i'll say cos that's not the way my mind works fool.

That moment wud have been tough for the beleiver but not the atheist.

Let's say that the Beleiver had someone bail him outta a tough situation.

Whom will he thank then? The person who helped him or God?

Some beleivers tend to overemphasize the fact that a miracle has happened

instead of realising that it was sheer will power or some other cause that made him/her

tide over the diffcult situation.

As for the atheist,he/she will immediatly thank the person who helped him out....

The God, Dog Star ...

Sirius, The God, Dog Star

The effect of Sirian energy and influences generated approximately nine years ago the last cycle when Sirius A and B were closest, in 1993/1994, have created renewed interest in this most influential heavenly body. The history books and religions of the world have had much to say about the God/Dog star. This article reflects on our ancestor’s beliefs and inspired insights into a great mystery … the mystery of the Dog Star and its influences on our little corner of the universe.
Sirius was an object of wonder and veneration to all ancient peoples throughout human history. In the ancient Vedas this star was known as the Chieftain's star; in other Hindu writings, it is referred to as Sukra, the Rain God, or Rain Star. The Dog is also described as "he who awakens the gods of the air, and summons them to their office of bringing the rain."

Sirius was revered as the Nile Star, or Star of Isis, by the ancient Egyptians. Its annual appearance just before dawn at the Summer Solstice, June 21, heralded the coming rise of the Nile, upon which Egyptian agriculture depended. This helical rising is referred to in many temple inscriptions, where the star is known as the Divine Sepat, identified as the soul of Isis. In the temple of Isis-Hathor at Dedendrah, Egypt, appears the inscription, "Her majesty Isis shines into the temple on New Year's Day, and she mingles her light with that of her father on the horizon." The Arabic word Al Shi'ra resembles the Greek, Roman, and Egyptian names suggesting a common origin in Sanskrit, in which the name Surya, the Sun God, simply means the "shining one."

For 35 days before, and 35 days after the Sun conjuncts it on July 4, the star Sirius is hidden by the Sun’s glare. The ancient Egyptians refused to bury their dead during the 70 days Sirius was hidden from view, because it was believed Sirius was the doorway to the afterlife, and the doorway was thought to be closed during this yearly period.

Located just below the Dog Star there exists a constellation called Argo, the Ship. Astrologically that area in the sky has been known as the river of stars which is a gateway to the ocean of higher consciousness.

The dog Sirius is one of the watchmen of the Heavens, fixed in one place at the bridge of the Milky Way, keeping guard over the abyss into incarnation. The Dog Star is a symbol of power, will, and steadfastness of purpose, and exemplifies the One who has succeeded in bridging the lower and higher consciousness.
