Rock On...

by Jaan » Mon Oct 11, 2004 6:36 am

I have always been a fan of rock music. Strings, drums, great lyrics and all that.

But I get lost in a conversation when someone talks about Progressive, Soft, Hard, Metal, Liquid Metal, Alternative, Classical. Have I missed any?

I hear names such as Eagles, The Cure, AC/DC etc. I mean I can tell the obvious difference between the music but if I hear it on the radio, I won't know one name from the other.

Can someone expain? Any recommedations? I would like to rediscover this type of music. Thanks.

And, I dedicate this thread to all the greatest bands of such music. Rock on....

While I appreciate your input, perhaps you can redirect me to the threads that contain the definite answers to my question?

well...i've started listening to Rock since a couple of months and discovered that vintage/classic rock is my type....except a few numbers most of metal and hard rock doesn't appeal to me

btw, i learnt the difference between Hard Rock n Metal after reading some old threads and listening to the music too...but i cant make out the differences between the other genres of metal/rock....like death, doom, trash etc...all sound like the cacophony to me...
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

Band - Pink floyd (Strange nobody mentioned them yet)

Song - What do you want from me

Album - Division Bell

Genre - Progressive, Psychedellic Rock

Although not everyone's favourite Floyd number, I love this one because of the lovely synergy between rhythm, beat and vocals. Fantastic number.
