The Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers is a must see...<br><br>

The movie begins with Frodo dreaming of Gandalf and the Balrog (from the fellowship). The landscape of Mordor as seen from the distance is fantastic. The movie has essentially three threads: <br><br>

1) The Riders of Rohan and the Battle of Hornburg: <br><br>

\"Arise now, arise Riders of Theoden!<br>
Dire deeds awake, dark it is eastward.<br>
Let horse we bridled, horn be sounded!<br>
Forth Eorlingas!\"<br><br>

Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli meet the Riders of Rohan. Grima Wormtongue is brilliantly played, as is Thoeden. Helms deep is gorgeous to look at and so are the white mountains. The Battle lasts for atleast 30min and is the absolute high point of the film. The battle varies from the book. The Huorns are not mentioned here and the battle is essentially shown to be fought by men, the wood elves and Gimli the
dwarf. The final charge by Thoeden and Aragorn against the Orcs is fantastic. The wood elves look almost divine. Gandalf arrives on Sshadowfax with Eomer and the Rohirrim and saves the day. The battle seemed to me to end rather abruptly here. Also needless to say, the second battle of the fords of Isen is not mentioned and the first is barely mentioned when Theodred is shown to be dying.<br><br>

2) The Seige of Isengard: <br><br>

\"All that is gold does not glitter,<br>
Not all those who wander are lost;<br>
The old that is strong does not wither,<br>
Deep roots are not reached by frost.\"<br><br>

Treebeard the ent looks fantastic and the ents finally kick ass here destroying Isengard and imprisoning Saruman. All orc creatures, the Uruk hai and wolves look absolutely devastating.<br><br>

3) Frodo, Sam and Gollum: <br><br>

\"Yes, yes,\" said Gollum.
\"All dead, all rotten. Elves and Men and Orcs. The Dead Marshes.
There was a great battle long ago, yes, so they told him
when Sméagol was young,
when I was young before the Precious came. It was a great battle.
Tall men with long swords, and terrible Elves, and Orcses shrieking.
They fought on the plain for days and months at the Black Gates.
But the Marshes have grown since then, swallowed up the graves,
always creeping, creeping.\"<br><br>

Frodo and Sam on their way to Mordor fall upon Gollum. Gollum is absolutely stunning to look at. CGI has reached it absolute zenith here. The voice of Gollum(played by Andy Sarkis) is rasping and incredible and his facial expressions are brilliant. Frodo, Sam and Gollum move towards Mordor and are captured by Faramir. There is a digression from the book here as Faramir takes them to Osiligath.<br><br>
The movie does jump start in places and Gandalf still does look like Father Christmas but these are minor spoilers considering the eye candy this movie offers.<br><br>

\"Three Rings for the Eleven-kings under the sky,<br>
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,<br>
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,<br>
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne<br>
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.<br>
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,<br>
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them<br>
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.\"<br><br>
He paused, and then said in a deep voice,<br>
\"This is the Master-Ring, the One Ring to rule them all.<br>
This is the One Ring lost many years ago,<br>
To the great weakening of its maker\'s power.<br>
Now, he greatly desires to have it again,<br>
- but he must NOT get it...\"

GOD!!! You guys must be insane... Lord Of The Rings (The Two Towers) is a pretty boring flick. Apart from the so-called visual treat there is nothing worth a mention here. It is over three hours and is a dowdy flick. I am sick of such movies. I am even ready to eat Chinese food at a stretch for a month, but no Harry Potter... excuse me.

Recently caught a 1990 remake of George Romero?s ?Night of the Living Dead? (1968 original). This was an officially sanctioned remake based on the original script and Romero filling in as executive producer and directed by Tom Savini who did the SFX for Romero?s ?Dawn of the Dead? and ?Day of the Dead?. The film essentially deals with a bunch of survivors holed up in a desolate farmhouse desperately looking to stay alive as the entire zombified countryside comes knocking at their door for a bite. It starts off with very little preamble and no explanation is cooked up for the zombie phenomenon. The original movie was a ground-breaker amongst other things for being the first horror film to have a black hero, the remake reprises that with a guy who for most part keeps well clear of the trash-talkin? MoxFo type that perpetuates the mainstream and delivers a rather credible performance. The film unlike the similarly scripted Evil Dead series maintains a somber tone throughout its length. The initial part which uses an intimate 2-character setup (the black guy and a white woman, who is the heroine) is awesome, with a screenplay that oozes polish and masterfully composed visuals (for example, passage of day shown in a set of 3 fleeting shots of gorgeous sky at different time points, ending with the spinning of a spider-web). The film goes a bit awry in the middle with the introduction of the other characters (who apparently have been hiding in the basement of the farmhouse)..... it almost gives the feeling of having suddenly been dropped into a sitcom with a set of stereotypes. The rest of the film deals with their efforts to keep from being zombified. Some of the scenes are really good in the sense of how they confound your attempts at predicting the flow of the story. The climax is a real beauty, going ahead, in terms of philosophical observation, of what was done in the original film.Certain parts of the film have been modified to fit the 90?s era (SPOILERS AHEAD!!!! Don?t read if you want to have a fresh experience):1. In the original the heroine apparently remains a hapless wreck till the end, while here she very quickly becomes an icon of feminine resourcefulness and quite adept at zombie headshots in the bargain. But the performance was very good so I?m not complaining. 2. The gore factor is said to be rather toned down from the original. For most part I?d say it makes for a more restrained film and there?s definitely no chickening out from creating a solid atmosphere. 3. The original supposedly ends with the black hero emerging from the basement after surviving against the zombies only to be immediately gunned down by a bunch of trigger-happy redneck vigilantes. Here he is mysteriously zombified when he runs into them giving some rationale for his being gunned down.

Spielberg\'s Schindler\'s List is the best movie ever made. One does have to wait until the movie ends to figure out why it was made in Black and White. It\'s such a superb movie that it makes you a part of it. You tend to feel for those who suffered in the holocaust. A collector\'s movie. Also catch Primal Fear, Analyze This, Analyze That, Contact, Ants In The Pants!!! And more. Has anyone come across movies like these?<br> Hairy Parter in Hairy Parter and the Sorceress Stonned, Buffie The Vampire Layer, Analyze Her, Lord of the Queens??

A list of the truly notable comedies of Hindi cinema IMO (in no particular order): Shatranj Ke Khiladi (Satyajit ray), Charandas Chor, Mandi, Sooraj ka Saatwan Ghoda (Shyam Benegal), Golmaal, Naram-Garam, Kisi se na kehna (Hrishikesh Mukherjee), Jaane bhi do Yaaron (Kundan Shah), Angoor (Gulzar), Peecha karo (Pankaj Parashar), Katha, Chashme baddoor (Sai Paranjpe), Pushpak (Singeetham Srinivasa Rao) - not exactly Hindi cinema considering it was bereft of dialog, Dil pe mat le yaar (Hansal Mehta). I am a huge fan of Peecha Karo...Inspector Giriharidhara & HariHaridhara were fantastic....not to mention Choos-Lee!! hehehehe .... \"Ye chota chetan ... ye mota chetan ... aur ye sota chetan\" .... that dialogue always cracks me up. Oh..also a couple of classic Kishor Kumar comedies...personal faves are Chalti ka naam gaadi and Half-ticket...he DOES get quite silly after a point, but like Sellers, I think he\'s the only guy who can carry off all that buffonery. Peter Sellers for President !!

Vivek, \"Analyze That\" is a jaded , worn out and crappy sequel of a highly enjoyable \"Analyze This\".Billy Crystal and De Niro , though well past their are a thrill to watch though. This was a sequel that should never have been made , but then how many of these should have? And I did see \"Road To Perdition\" on the big screen playing to a near empty cinema hall.( what\'s wrong with you Hydies!!!)Beautiful cinematography by Conrad Hall , wonderful score by Thomas Newman and an incredible Paul Newman are about the very few admirable things to be said about this film.Tom Hanks as Michael Sullivan looks stiff and isn\'t able to pull off the role convincingly.Jude Law is great to watch , but he doesnt have a lot of screen time to show what a wonderful talent he is.The story is more predictable than a Mithun Chakravarthy film sans the unintentional humour and drags interminably at times. Sam Mendes comes across as one of the most overrated filmmakers today and he seems to thrive upon Hall\'s camerawork to carry his films (the other one being American Beauty).Hall\'s work is awesome to watch though , especially the shots in the rain. (RIP...and a well deserved 3rd oscar!!)
