Female Quizzers Unite!

I\'ve often wondered why we don\'t have a female Siddharth Basu or Derek O Brien. Why do guys always outnumber the girls at GK quizzes? I\'m looking for realistic answers/suggestions not chauvinistic ones.

First of all, lets exclude Derek from this discussion:-)
now coming to reasonable suggestions,i cant think of any explanation save that females in general are less bothered with whats happening around them.....
and i guess they arent too interested in music and books which are generally regarded as the Canon in the quizzing circuit.
btw.....are there any female quizzers around in hyd coz i hardly come across any

and yes....i have also read a scientific article which says that men are better at quizzing because they look at it as competition from other males......i call it Derek the Alpha Male Syndrome.......
science can be amusing at times eh;-)

Yeah you are right.....There were never too many female quizzers in Hyd......We were a trio in College....I hope I don\'t sound like I\'m blowing the \"collective female trumpet\" but we were fairly good as a team.....but then I do admit that I\'ve met a couple of guys who are very, very good....Happy Quizzing!

Hey twilight.....nice to meet you.....infact i was about to post a thread myself
hoping to meet some fellow quizzers.....i wonder where u got the opportunity to quiz in hyd
considering how few quizzes seem to be held here..........and as for female participation,
well the odds of finding a female at a quiz are less than those of india winning a test
match.....heartening to note that atleast someone wants to change the trend
anyway.......good luck for your next quiz :-)

Jethro, judging by the response (or rather the lack of it!) to my topic, I conclud that quizzing is a dying hobby .......anyways to each his/her own. You in two minds?....Don\'t be......Just go for it.....The prelims will be held on April 28th.

ah.......dont let the lack of enthusiasm upset u.......quizzing was never really alive and kicking in hyd to mourn its demise now....
anyways now that i have decided to register, am in an even greater turmoil as to what topics to take.....all the things that i am good at have already been taken.....
anyway since u seem so despondent about the quizzing scene here, have u tried out kcircle yet.......its pretty decent

aha.....so now in the good old tradition of monsieur holmes, i am supposed to deduce who this might be :-)
but even the most astute of sleuths needs a clue to arrive at the right answer.........so do i get some indication as to who the suspect is :-)

hey guys..maybe u r looking at it from a djffrent angle.. the reason that the guys outnumber girls on the quizzing circuit disproportionate to the sex ratio is that 4 the guys this begins with cricket stats on sachin and soon snowballs into taht all 2familiar feeling. For the less athletically inclined male this is a good extra curric worth pursuing, since pursuing SUPW that gals do is a thought undreamt of. Besides a lot of the guys i know start it 4 the sake of entrance xams and then get hooked on to it. Its the equivalent of chess 4 the guys.. no injury, less money spent and athinking guy image that adds value 2 ur resume\'.

SUPW ???? Do enlighten me abt what that might mean.......
and hey....if someone quizzes just because he thinks it puts a thinking cap over his shallow head and adds value to his resume....i hope he sticks to playing chess......and quizzing as a means of preparation for entrance exams!!!! i can only pity someone with that bent........they really are missing out on a lot of clean fun.....

I think it all boils down to one thing.......quizbuffs are into quizzing for the sheer love of GK or to use the cliche out of their \"thirst for knowledge\"........may our tribe increase!
