he is human, he had a right to be peeved.

it is not everyday that you get to make a double century against a team that you hate the most (pak)... and the timing of the declaration was so abrupt that it puzzled tendulkar. he had thot, another ten mins more, and no harm done.

he is a team man, i have no doubts about That. but he treasures that additional run that takes him from 99 to 100 or 199 to 200.

This has been discussed in another thread but I'll repeat it here nevertheless. Sachin knew fully well during tea that the declaration was coming soon. A player of his experience should have known that the best time to declare under teh circumstances was an hour before close of play as the bowlers would have a good chance to take some early wickets. Also note that Yuvraj scored runs at a very brisk pace whereas Sachin was surprisingly subdued.

And finally, being peeved is one thing, washing one's dirty linen in public is another. If he was peeved, there was a forum to vent his anger - team meetings. It should have never reached the press. That's why I called his behaviour unprofessional.

His reaction was still quite muted in comparison to how Miandad reacted when Imran declared the innings while the former was on 195 (somewhere between 190 and 198) against india. Miandad and Imran had a personal rivalry thing going on, and perhaps the decision in question was because of a jealous Mr. Ganguly (he motioned to dravid an over before the eventual declaration)

i believe his reaction was blown out of proportion by the media. the team is bigger than individuals....and he knows it better than anyone else.

a team win has always mattered more to him... remember how he changed the course of the match by bowling moin khan in between his legs with the last ball of the day in the recent test series?

If you read my post a little more carefully, you'll see that my objection was that he gave a reaction to the media in the first place. What the media did was worse, agreed.

And rainie, are we keeping Miandad as a benchmark while determining professionalism?

As for the ire against Ganguly, he is probably the best skipper we've had post Tiger. He's outspoken and tough....something Indian fans are not used seeing the captain as. That's one reason why there is so much of malice towards him. He's been inspirational for several youngsters in the team. And moreover, he has his own place in the hearts of cricket fans as well as the annals of the game. Why would he be jealous of someone at this juncture?

Ganguly was one of the best things that happened to indian cricket.. he honed the skills of so many youngsters and used them to max effect... he's also has uncanny luck accompanying his decisions. do u remember the '99 world cup? that was when i used to think, the best player of pace is tendulkar and the best player of spin in the world is ganguly. he used to terrorise the slower bowlers.. he was amazing.

the ire against him now.. is that his batting form is in the doldrums since a looong time. the dada is so uncomfortable at the crease nowadays....

i guess u havent heard of the showdown between dravid and ganguly in the 3rd test of the pak series. ganguly had commented on the media that "dravids decision to declare was wrong" , while he himself had told dravid to declare asap. when ganguly rejoined the team in pak (he had flown to india for medical tests), dravid spoke to him about his loose comment, a lie in fact.

Tell me about it.. The way Indian team is playing, it would be tough. I guess the "CLICK FACTOR" still plays an important role. By click factor I mean, if the seniors in the team click the juniors perform well too. If Sachin,Ganguly and Rahul perform well we should have a good match on our hands.

VVS is injured, I guess we lost a batsman but hey we have enough of those. Lets get some good bowlers for a change.

People on my shit list for now.

1. Sehwag - (Telegu) Wadu Seh-Wagutadu.. aante! :x I havent seen the man contribute in any way. He missed catches and didnt score when we needed him. Sit his ass down! :x

now this one factor where we are at a huge disadvantage.. the management doesnt have the balls to sit someone down on the bench if they're a big name! look at his performances thru the last few games, dismal! give some other guy a break, mebbe that'll be the kick in the groin he needs.. a threat to ur position in the team is prolly the only way to make sure they dun take it for granted on the field..
