CAD, there are these nifty things called ebook readers - small hand-held devices that you can use to read the books, like portable MP3 players. There is no smell of the paper, but it is quite useful especially while travelling when you do not want your books to get tattered and torn by the elements beyond your control.

Currently reading Douglas Adams' Mostly Harmless. Here are a few gems that I came across already. :D

1. Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws.

2. The Hingefreel people of Arkintoofle Minor did try to build spaceships that were powered by bad news but they didn’t work particularly well and were so extremely unwelcome whenever they arrived anywhere that there wasn’t really any point in being there.

3. One of the extraordinary things about life is the sort of places it’s prepared to put up with living. It will even live in New York, though it’s hard to know why.

4. The last time anybody made a list of the top hundred character attributes of New Yorkers, common sense snuck in at number 79.

Did you guys see the movie - 'Hitchhiker's guide'>? They've ruied the book. Have cut out so many parts, put in new plots. Douglas must've turned in his grave (especially as it says 'For Douglas' at the end)

A question that came to my mind when I was reading 'Brave new World - Aldous Huxley' - Since 'Mother' is an obscene word in the new world, then shouldn't 'Love' be obscene too? Huxley should have made 'Love' obscene too since it reflects emotions and feelings for the other person. (There's a song in the book with love in lyrics)

Or can it be that Love and Sex are synonymous?

Actually D.Adams himself wrote the screenplay. He wanted a different version of his story in the movie.

About the several missing sub plots:You cant write a screenplay for the entire book. You HAVE to cut out some parts of the story.Even Peter Jackson deleted many plots from LOTR,and LOTR is supposed to be the MOST faitfull adaption.

And I assume you are talking about John Malkovich's character in the movie.....That part was specifically created by DA for the movie(I dont know the reason). So he didnt turn in his grave because he knew the shape the movie was going to take.

Yes there are 2 screenplay writers but Karey Kirkpatrick was just a script doctor and DA wrote the most of the script. And this movie has been in Pre-Production for 10 years,so DA wrote the script in 1995 and KK just gave the finishing touches.

This is just the beginning, A2C. Just give yourself some more time and soon you will be a H2G2 convert. It totally rocks.
