Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun and DDLJ did break Sholay's record in collections and length of first run, but the difference is that very few would watch them again n again if they r rereleased today or anytime in the future.

oh yeah that too!Habitual Perfectionist wrote:One more point is that although MPK, HAHK, DDLJ etc. might have broken Sholay's collection records but we should not forget that ppl paid a Rs.5 ticket for watching Sholay but the same people ended up paying 10 times that amount...or maybe more in some places...for the other movies.

Habitual Perfectionist wrote:Dharmatma : A take on Godfather, this one was shot in Afghanistan. Wonderful locales and some songs like Tere Chehre Mein Woh Jaadoo Hai still evoke a lot of nostalgia.
Qurbani : One of my favourite movies. I've seen it n number of times and wouldn't mind a few more times. Powerhouse performances by FK, Vinod Khanna & above all, Amjad Khan. Zeenat looked at her ravishing best in the movie and this is one soundtrack all hindi film fan should posess.
Jaanbaaz : One of the most stylish movies ever made, this one was a story of a narcotics cop and his brushes with the mafia. Again, lovely music, good performances by FK & Anil Kapoor and the glam job well handled by Sridevi & Dimple. The music was again hummable with the outstanding track being Har Kisiko Nahi Milta.
Dayavaan : A movie inspired by the tamil flick Nayakan and the mumbai don, Varadarajan Mudaliar, the movie is probably best remembered for the famous Vinod Khanna-Madhuri Dixit smooch. It was a good movie but got eclipsed by the Tamil version which was better.
Yalgaar : This is probably where the slump started. This movie was high on style but low on substance. A powerhouse cast including FK, Kabir Bedi & Sunjay Dutt was grossly underused. A new introduction...don't even remember his name...was one of FK's biggest letdowns.
After this, FK introduced his son Cocaine Khan who was an even bigger letdown than the unshaved wierdo in Yalgaar. He made two films, Prem Aggan and Janasheen with sonny and both were big flops. The fact that the music was good in both the movies goes without saying, but they fell bigtime on expectations generally associated with the original...and IMO real...King Khan.

CtrlAltDel wrote:there's another 70s FK film u forgot HP: Apradh with Mumtaz...its set in Germany where FK plays a race car driver who gets involved with a crime syndicate....a very stylish movie!
btw, is the pseudo-western Kaala Sona also produced/directed by FK?
