it was a little draggin but also had a very stark look at things, wasnt that suspenseful as the first one nor as adrenaline pumping as the sequel. i think ppl didnt like that much coz of its nihilistic content. even the Alien was poorly designed

Well Alien 3 was at time was directed my a completely new director.I mean Alien and Aliens were directed by some of the best Science Fiction directors,Ridley Scott(Blade Runner) and James Cameron(Terminator and Abyss). :D

if that be the case, then even Ridley Scott was a newcomer when he made Alien having made just one movie before that. James Cameron had Terminator on his resume b4 he made Aliens

Agree. Roger Moore was very good as Bond, and he took the franchise to new heights. But Sean was nmore closer to the persona of James Bond.

azazel wrote:i started my tryst with Bond with Brosnan features, so he'll always be a name easier to identify with the character. His first coupla movies as Bond were good, it started to get a bit on the downside with The World Is Not Enough n hit rock-bottom with Die Another Day.
Brosnan is a good actor, but shites all over the legacy of Sean and Moore. Maybe he's all the casters have at the moment. As far as radical changes go, they should bring back the dark humour (which dominated the Sean era). Please cut out the childish romp-through-a-town-square-in-a-tank and other over the top stuff. It goes against the very definition of a spy movie.

True, but just look at the number of blockbusters they had.Every film which they both worked on has become a major hit. :D

forgive me, i didnt get the point of that. yea, they've had critical n commercial success n they're very good film-makers. David Fincher is a relatively new guy but he's also had his share of acclaim, so ur point was?

Roger Moore is awesome but I have to say that my favorite will always be Dalton.Living Daylights was the best bond movie I have seen.If anyone has read the books then they will understand that Dalton was the bond which resembled the bond in the books. His serious look was really needed after people started getting tired of Moore and his silly jokes who was 60 when he filmed A view to a kill  .Sean Connery once stated that he retired because he thought he was too old for the role of James Bond and he was suprised than Brocolli replaced him with an actor older than him  .License to kill was also supposed to be one of the first PG-13 movies where a guy hits a girl and it was one and only bond movie where bond asks someone to piss off  (The maximum bond went before this movie was when Bond tell Scaramanga in TMWTGG:In our country we have a 4 letter word and you are full of it). :D

hain? i thought he always does a good job. he was the perfect cast for the character when he was chosen, its just tht the style have become too decrepit n redundant for out times. by that i mean, the PG-rated idiosyncrasies/dialogue. sheeeesh :!:

why not? tho im not a HUGE fan, the guy's a good movie-maker. made some of the best action [read:BLOCKBUSTER] movies.

famous movies: Terminator 1,2 [obviously], Aliens, The Abyss, Titanic, True Lies.. havent i listed all?

his main strength as the sci-fi tell ya, is the FX. famous for the ground-breaking FX in his movies, he also has the grasp on the art of movie-making with fast-paced action. Titanic as ppl knw, is the highest-earning movie of all time. so that's definitely raised the bar to new levels. i dint particularly like it but it was a well-made effort.

Have started a new thread to discuss Bond.

On topic....dunno if you would classify him as new generation, but how about Jonathan Demme being the next choice?

I liked Titanic,it was a good romance movie, many James Cameron fans hate it because he made a Romance movie and not a Sci Fi.But the problem with James Cameron right now is he is making documentries and not awesome Sci Fi movies. He is supposed to be doing a movie called Battle Angel Alita(This is not confirmed but all rumors are telling this).I heard that he earned a lot of money from Titanic that he is too afraid to make a movie because he is scared that it wouldnt do that well(Its some phobia, dont know the exact name of it). This new movie which hes supposed to do has ground breaking speacial effects. :D

nope, he started out way back in '74 with infamous Caged Heat. besides, i dun think ive seen too many movies from the guy to really talk abt his work. but for someone who's made the awesome Silence Of The Lambs, i think sez a lot

i'd like to suggest a relative newcomer by the name of Darren Aronofsy.

ne takers?

y do all the good threads die of stagnation!!!

as promised, here's my take on Mr.Darren Aronofsky:

PI -> a brilliant piece of indie movie making. tells the tale of an obsessive compulsive mathematician who's hell bent on solving the puzzle of the term which may/may not have disastrous results on everything around. Shot in black&white with brilliant cinematography[granular b/g], the camera movements in sync with the background leave u speechless.

Requiem For A Dream -> if anything, this was a perfect blend of everything. A very heartening account of a 4 lives centered around drugs n their intentional/unintentional use/abuse. the superb direction deftly combines a simple story, powerful acting[Ellen Burstyn is brilliant!], stupendous background score[the lead theme is beautiful in its sadness], tight editing coupled with innovative camera techniques[no over-use], the American dream which remains a dream for most ppl, n ultimately the destruction tht some habits lead to. needless to say, doesnt make for commercial success

DA is definitely one of the better talents to look out for..

Cool.I saw the trailer to Sin City when I went for The Aviator. It looks awesome.I thought the story was kinda similar to Max Payne.BTW I heard that the movie is in B&W like Schindlers List.At first that was a let down, but then realized that Black and White will clearly capture the true spirit of the movie. :D

I think it is really unfair not to have mentioned KEVIN SMITH so far.

- Chasing Amy

- The Clerks

- Mallrats

- Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back

- Dogma

Ah yes......Rodriguez can wait...All Hail Kevin Smith

Truly brilliant director.....its odd how there's only 1 quote from his movies in that other thread when each and every dialogue is an absolute gem.

Especially when Silent Bob speaks and more than anyone else....RANDAL.

When it some to RR, it is difficult to digest that this is the same dude who on one side gave the fantabulous "El Mariachi" and the the howlarious "From Dusk Till Dawn", and on the other side he was the say duff who made "Spy Kids". I think I'd like to see a bit more consistency in a director without selling out.

Nonetheless great.

Hey even Kevin Smith's The Jersey Girl was a desent flick.Of course I didnt expect much from it,maybe thats why it was decent to me.Any movie which gets hyped up sucks finally, just like Troy and SPiderman 2(WTF is with the romance between Spidey and MJ?  :x :x )

I was shocked when I learned that SK and Desparado had the same directors....   .I didnt see El Mariachi, any idea how that movie is?Then again Once Upon a Time in Mexico sucked(Oh why god did he bring Enrique in this movie),bloddy he got Salma Hayek killed in the first 10 min. :x I guess Sin City will have the same amount of violence as in Desparado(Did anyone read the comic?).

And about the consistency, god knows about that. His next movie is The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D.   I mean come on,when he is making movies like Sin City,he again acts like a suker and as an sellout.
