Hypothetical situation. Assume 4 ppl in a room and no external influences etc. 3 men and a lady. Each man has a disability , one blind, one deaf and one dumb. The lady in the room is the blind man's wife. The deaf guy kisses her and assuming she and he wont open their month on the matter, how does the dumb guy tell the blind fella whatever happened ?

M(blind) - [F-Wife(assumption: All OK)]

M(Deaf)

M(Dumb)

The dumb man kisses his own hand and makes a loud smack sound. The blind man and his wife hear it. Blind mans wife reports that the dumb man kissed his hand, Blind man is suspicious and while french kissing his wife asks the dumb man to kiss his hand once again if he did kiss his hand earlier. Dumb man doesnt kiss his hand now, so that way he raises a doubt in blind man saying that the deaf man and his wife kissed. Since deaf man cannot hear anything he cannot protect the lady or himself and since the blind man is kissing the lady she cannot make the smack sound herself. Hence the truth is out.

2. The gift costs 30, with discount its 25. 2 Rs will go to the charity. So the effective cost of gift is now 25(cost with discount)+2(charity)=27. They get back 3 Rs. hence 27+3 = 30. All OK.

This is a typical GRE Analytical type problem. I am not so sure bout the last line though!!

----------------------------------------------------------------

1. There are 5 houses in 5 different colours. In each house lives a person with a different nationality.

2. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet.

3. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same beverage.

The question is "Who owns the fish?'

Facts:

The Brit lives in the red house

The Swede keeps dogs as pets.

The Dane drinks tea.

The green house is on the left of the white house.

The green house's owner drinks coffee.

The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.

The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.

The man living in the center house drinks milk.

The Norwegian lives in the first house.

The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats. The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill. The owner who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer. The German smokes Prince. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

Einstein wrote this riddle this century. He said 98% of the world could not solve it.

Well, I did mostly trial and error. I assumed that green is left of white meant that green is immediately left of white, and then did 2-3 cases. Worked out the 3rd time, I think. Took me close to 30 minutes, though. Yes, everything in the rough column for this one can be a poor methodology :).

Well it appears that Einstein coined this riddle after all ....... google "Einsteins riddle" and you would know

I got it in mail a coupla yrs back. I solved it initially with matrix, rough work and all. Then for clarity and the benefit of my friends and whomsoever i frwded it to I wrote the solution in plain text. (I probably had a lot of patience back then). Lost the solution somehow.

A neat desc of the solution is there however at

http://www.tortillaboy.com/einstein2.html

German is infact the correct answer.

I assumed that green is left of white meant that green is immediately left of white

And the assumption is a valid one.

I didnt hear this before, but this is a basic human psych problem. Since the wife and the deaf man were the only two people who could reveal the secret, we had to create a rift between them.

All what I said rests on the fact that deaf man kissed the lady and decided not to speak. Else it would have been very difficult to prove anything the way I put it.

Maybe there are other solutions, but I thought this was the cleanest.

Thanks you guys... PMoW and Mona_Kahan_hai_mera_sona.
