How i quit smoking

by vivek » Mon Apr 18, 2005 9:09 pm

I quit smoking and i feel awesome!

I have been smoking 5 - 8 cigarattes on and off for the past few years realising that its not fun anymore. I tried quiting manytime before but in vain. This time its my 8th day and i guess i have crossed my 72 hour vulnerable period. The first 4 days were hell.

I just wanted to smoke the hell out!!..i envied people who smoked, they are so damn relaxed they seemed. Its just 3 bucks! for an orgasm on the road!!.But i just was just curious to know my breaking point. And i survived 4 days and guess what, the fifth day i almost forgot to think about smoking.

They say, that Human Body takesabout 4 days to stabilise the bloodsugar level post cessastion. And it is this 4 days that drives you nuts. For hard smokers, i wont advise quiting during working days!!... you will screwup something bigtime. Wait for a long weekend and then sacrifice it for the sake of quiting.

Now, i feel better. Its actually fun this way!. Not that i feel free like a bird and the whole Lung Cancer cliche'. I truly feel like Indian Idol! or the Apprentice after trump says " you're hired!"

One big problem remains, my friends at work and home smoke. Now i got to give them company. Some of them are damn good, but its the remaining gang i fear.Nyways.. this is phase-II i guess.

Folks, what i did was called Cold Turkey quiting. Its about just quting one fine morning. No gums and patches. Just quit. Its horrible and you feel like a recovering drug addict.

Now, if at all you do this. Follow my well researched rules

1. First of all QUIT

2. Start drinking lotsa water

3. Drink until urine is crystal clear ( like the water you drank)

4. Supplement with fruit juices and eat anything thats edible

Do this for 4 - 7 days and then you will automatically forget smoking!

When I am in India,I dont feel like smoking. But only when I am in US,I crave it.When I came to India in Dec,I didnt smoke for 3 days and I didnt get the urge to smoke(Maybe because I am scared that my dad may find out  ).And even the remaining days I just smoked like 5 ciggarettes per day.In the states I always finish 1 pack a day.

Anyway I will try your method.Congrats and good luck.
