The Best Rock/Metal Singers Of All Time

by Vulcan » Sat Aug 07, 2004 12:21 pm

We've had the best slow songs. We've had the best guitarists. Now, for the best singers of all time. This time, let's try to make it a little more organised. Post the top 10 singers, the bands and a specific song where you think the singer proved that nobody else can do what he/she can.

There's also a grading system here. The number one singer gets 10 points, the 2nd 9, the 3rd 8, and so on. I'll try to add all and get an overall picture for every 10 voters. The verdict will be given after 25 voters post. So, here's my list:

1. Mikael Akerfeldt - Opeth - Bid You Farewell = 10

2. Corey Taylor - Slipknot - Left Behind = 9

3. Bruce _ - Iron Maiden - Blood Brothers = 8

4. Cud - Mudvayne - A World So Cold = 7

5. Ozzy Osbourne - Black Sabbath - Snowblind = 6

6. Axe L Rose - Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O Mine = 5

7. Steven Tyler - Aerosmith - Falling In Love = 4

8. Chester Bennington- Linkin Park - Crawling = 3

9. James Hetfield - Metallica - One = 2

10. Serj Tankian - System Of A Down - Spiders = 1

These singers, according to me, have the vocal range, the control and the versatility.

Guys that almost made it:

Phil Arismo - Pantera

Ian Gillian - Deep Purple

Jon Bon Jovi - Bon Jovi

Warrel Dane - Nevermore

Hansi Kursh - Blind Guardian

And that singer from Iced Earth.

Your turn now.

first thoughts, dude.. this aint a music forum so u cant really expect the kinda replies ur lookin for.. take ^^ for example.. top 10 rock/metal singers? mmm.. was majorly tired of these lists n all while on gigpad.. theres nothing like a Top something dude, plus it requires too much of classification..

And that singer from Iced Earth.

thats one of my fav singers, Matt Barlow, unfortunately he's left I.E now..

There can be - whoever WE rate as the best will be on top. Simple. 8) And I think I am beginning to understand that this isn't a music forum - any other forum and this thread would've already had fierce flaming going on. Hmm... my first board isn't going to be a real hit after all... And my bad for screwing up Phil Anselmo.

BW, I know it's probably unfair to mix clean vocals with the "unclean" ones, but I was hoping that people would put up a top 10 list including both in the same.

Are there anymore takers? Hey Az man, where's your list?

nice topic. i'm makin this up as i go along, as i think singing talent isn't an important part of rock. I like a rock singer who can create an atmosphere with his voice, be it a sleepy hazy one like mr. dylan in VOJ, or a drunken heroin fueled rage like young.

(also its only a top 4 as im not that into rock at the moment, in a bit of a folkie phase)

1. Bob Dylan - (song) Visions of Johanne - 10

2. Neil Young - (song) Come on Baby lets go Down Town - 9

3. Jeff Buckley - (song) Halleluha - 8

4. Jim Morrison - The Doors - The End - 7
