Shopping and Women

by Bimbette » Wed Jul 14, 2004 10:55 pm

Whats with most women and shopping?

I know I'm part of a teeny weeny minority but I've met lots of women who are confirmed shopaholics. If I need something I go and buy it but I've never really understood the concept of window shopping / flitting from one shop to another, when u have nothing else to do.

Any girl who endorses what I'm saying ?

Do all men detest shopping ? How many men enjoy shopping ?

I feel that shopaholism is not really gender specific. I've seen men shop as ferociously as women. Yes.....there is this thing about the male ego which does prevent them from accepting them that they also trip on shopping.

My shopping tendencies are....

Planned and quick shopping. I know what I need to buy when I go out to buy something and I get done with it fast enough.

I think its all about the product that we are buying. Men and women spend equal amount of time on them.

~For women

Clothes, Vanity products, House items, Utensils, etc... plus they love to bargain. I mean HATS OFF to you people man. The way you bargain in just awesome.

~For guys

Cars, Bikes, Electronic stuff, maybe clothes.... but we(men) dont know how to bargain. We go in select the thing in and pay the price written on the tag and get out.

Also women on the other hand go from store to store to just check out the items that are on display. They wear stuff, check out how it looks on them and then when they find the right match they buy it. Men on the other hand window shop. They like something, they go in buy the thing out right and breeze out.

The same principle applies when women are selecting husbands... they try this guy.. they try that one and then finally when they find the right one they stick to him. I think they invented the term "THE RIGHT ONE". Guys on the other hand just fall for a girl and invest everything on her. Poor MEN.. tch tch.. We dont know what we are missing and the best part is we dont want to know what we are missing. We men think we have the best girl in the world with us. May be we should shop a little. What do you guys think??

Badmash, some theory that is about girls choosing a guy! In fact that theory applies to a lot of guys in today's world. Being picky and choosy is not 'female territory', believe me.

I've met a couple of guys who go from one girl to another hoping she'll be better than the previous one. Talk about, variety being the spice of life. Whatever happened to the 'lets accept people the way they are' attitude ?

Dramatic as this may sound, its a world of '2 minute noodles and 2 minute relationships'!

Hey Misty, (that sounds like a bengali sweet, mishti doi or something like that! :-) ) agree with what u said. Simple and straightforward shopping.

That was funny.. Mamujaan. I couldnt have defined it better.

You know its a game and since I take my mum shopping all the time. I am getting a knack of it.. though my mum is still the guru. These days we play TAG on the poor vendor. Just like WWF. My mum stops beating on him and I get into the act.

Before we go to a shop in old city we decide how much we are going to pay and then me and my mum hassel the poor dude till he gives up. The dude is posively VEXED. Its fun.

The art of bargaining... Its a subtle process of delving into the human physche and reading body language and facial experessions. It takes time to get it. But women have it inbuilt into their system. I wonder why?? I wonder how?? :?

I like to shop, I dont know about loving it though. The dialogue Azazel described sounds almost too familiar with my moms!! :D I like to shop with my sisters and friends, Id rather not go with mom and aunts or were looking at the entire day sitting in a showroom with drinks, snacks and other eatables ordered by the shop keepers, because they spend so much time there!

The most I can spend in one store, is about 40-45 mins. If you dont find something in the time slot, your most likely NOT going to find anything at all.

I really dont bargain. I feel ashamed you know, its just not something I can do all that well. So shopping with my mom is a definite money-saver.

i cant bargain. only once in my life i tried to bargain with a banana vendor and he asked me to f*** off in polite words...:(

i have seen one male bargaining in the way the females do. when i was out looking for a car, i took that guy along with me and let him do the talking. the way he bargained in the three showrooms was embarrassing for me. finally he held all the three sales guys by their b**ls n they were squealing and giving out more n more spl offers and i ultimately accepted a deadly offer from one of them: free insurance, free sexy blaupunkt stereo and very spl interest rates!

i dunno wat i'd have done without him...:)

Exactly.. Thats how I felt when I started... this is what my mum told me...

1. Why should you be ashamed when the vendor is not ashamed to demand a ridiculous price.

2. A vendor is not going to sell you an item at cost price. He is going to add profit to it. All bargaining does is brings down the profit margin to an acceptable limit. Yes, the vendor should make a profit. Uske bhi baal-bacche hain... but sirf uske hi baal-bacche nahin hai.

Azazel: Veggie-wallis dont make that much of a profit yaar. I dont bargain a lot with Bhaji-wallis. I mean look at them... they push a cart in the hot sun and have two babies hanging. Just for that I would give them what they ask. But the Marwadis are shrewd man.. be carefull with them. They would suck you dry if given a chance.
