Any cool places in Hyd ?

by Cool-Not-Cold » Mon Dec 29, 2003 7:48 pm

Was wondering if there are any cool(and safe) places that unattached as well as unaccompanied ladies could check out in Hyderabad....

Was waiting for HP to do the honours coz he's good at making some smart(ass) comments ;) Since he's not shown up, i'll do the best I can.

There are many cool places in Hyd and for every definition of the word 'cool'. Unless I know yours, I can't come up with my set of suggestions. Reg. safety, I dont think Hyd is a very unsafe place, so being unattached / unaccompanied may really not matter. If you want to play it safe, maybe you should take a cue from the moderator and get trained in Kung Fu ;)

Seriously, we need to get rid of this mindset that an unaccompanied woman is somehow more at risk than an unaccompanied man. When pointed a sharp knife or when confronted by a group of thugs, both are equally vulnerable, at least in real life - if not in Telugu movies.

Was pretty sure the definition of cool would probably crop up. Probably make a topic for another board. :)

Totally agree that Hyd is a pretty safe place. But then its not too much fun here for the singles (and unaccompanied). The probability of encountering a bunch of thugs or some crazy maniacs pointing sharp knives at you is pretty minimal here. But so is the possibility of watching a group of ladies visit and Irani cafe ......

Kung Fu hmm not a bad idea ... Must ask Ms Deepa Menon where she picked her skills from.

Will take your word for it and hope Mr HP drop his comments too .... he seems to have a reputation to live upto. :D

So, visiting Irani cafes is cool? Where I worked earlier, we used to take our lady colleagues to a nearby Irani cafe - and that was long, long ago. I dont think it would be an issue if you and a bunch of ladies decide to visit one. Be prepared to witness some unclean tables though. And before you all get cozy and get into a 'discussion mode', take notice of the signs on the wall which read "please make seat for others" :) (there would be other signs too, which say "do not wash hands in plate" and so on) Sounds really cool? ;)

I too hope HP will have something to add, but in case he doesn't make it, you can sample his prowess in this thread.

No way do i find vistin these cafes cool. A lot of guys I know do make a lot of hue-n-cry bout this thing that makes "life almost worth living". Wondered why women in Hyd never agreeed. But of course women are less willing to put up with unclean tables, signs on the wall et al.

Forget the Irani cafes, tell me how would a typical Hyd'i(read as male/female) react when they see a lady sitting alone :?:

As for HP ? hope his ideas arent antiquated ?

Well, not all the Irani cafes conform to the standards that I mentioned. There are many well maintained ones too. When I was new to Hyd (10 years ago), I heard a rumour that the chai served at these places is laced with opium. Can someone tell me if it is true or not? :) If it is true, then you have the answer for why guys make that hue n cry.

Typical Hydbadi's reaction to a lady sitting alone (in a public place, I assume) - not a very favorable one I guess, I'm not sure. I just would like to narrate my observation in a crowded Bangalore restaurant (ICH on MG road). A guy was sitting alone in a table waiting for what he ordered. A lady came alone, gestured to him to inquire if she could take the seat opposite him, he gestured back that it was ok, she sat diagonally across to him and they both finished their respective food oblivious of each other. Will a similar thing happen in Hyd? I've not seen it.

Reg. HP, he's not made it here after the board revamp. May his online soul rest in peace. :)

Btw, wasnt your original question about 'cool' places in Hyd for single ladies? :) Unfortunately, we are still in the dark about that one :) In case you are into fitness / nature / flower-liking ;) (in the absense of a more commonly accepted term), I suggest KBR park - IMHO, the best place in Hyd to spend time with oneself.

Will be of great help! Appreciate it.

Also Mr JALU the KBR suggestion is a good one. The only other nice option I came up with was Odyssey Leisure store. Thankfully for me I like reading. Would be ruled out if one didnt like it.
