ICC - Players standoff

by Srinu » Tue Sep 03, 2002 9:16 am

I am surprised to see no ones started a board on the current ICC - Indian players standoff. Or did I miss it somewhere?? Do you think the players should put patriotism over money and play the tournament irrespective of the conditions imposed by the ICC? Or do you think they should stand up for their rights, after all they (Indian Cricketers) are the biggest losers if the ICC has its way.

I don't agree. If it was a case of 'someone' playing the tournament, some brand name could have just held some competition and just for the heck of it sent the winners to play. That's not the point. There is more than just participation to a game. I personally wouldnt like to see my team thrashed (not that our current team is much better). But its a question of sending the best. I think most of the revenue is generated from the sub-continent. so if india doesnt play.... the sponsors are bound to lose. Then why this unreasonable rules & contracts?? I think its just a question of who calls the bluff first.

Baapu, I am sure that when the East India Company was taken over by the British Govt, there were a lot of \'hardcore\' Indians that said something on the same lines.

Vinay - one opinion does not hold good for all situations. We must learn to classify issues. It is insensible to bring the cricketers matter in parallel to the East India thing and on the top of it attribute it to the \"hardcore\" Indians. I hope you know what is \"hardcore\". Take care and enjoy life - leave on many other people like me to bother on issues like East India etc.

Baapu - I wish I had the confidence to put my life or my future in the hands of someone who doesn\'t care when something wrong and inhuman is taking place. I was in no way comparing the seriousness of the two events but the attitude most people have about \'bad\' things that are not happening to them. Always remember that anything that happens to one person anywhere in this country is a precedent that could be used against you. Tomorrow, some lawyer would stand up in court and use this precendent to ensure that some group of individuals have the right to tell you who your friends are and who aren\'t. It might just be too late to fight then. It is always easier to stop the rot when it starts than to try to clean it after it has spread.
