anyone running the 10K or 21K on Nov.27 in Hyderabad?

by runner » Tue Nov 01, 2005 8:29 pm

Guy, Gals - anybody participating in this event. I have been practicing 21K for around 8 months and can do it in abt 2 hrs time. I can manage the 10K in 50 minutes but I hope to beat this, this run....

Outside India there is a huge following for these events and I hope in time it becames very famous in India too....

some inspiration for us Indians...Mr. great Fauja Singh..

"At 94, he's run seven marathons (five in London), countless half-marathons and was recently part of the world's oldest marathon team in Edinburgh."

only looks difficult..

by runner » Wed Nov 02, 2005 1:45 pm

I think 10Kms. is not really difficult. More psychological barriers than physical....running a half Km was a very difficult thing for me when I started my training 6-8 months ago. But with little sincere training I was able to do the 10K within 1.5 to 2 months..

I have not reffered to any particular training plans but if you are interested there are many on the web like this..

http://www.hyderabad10k.com/training.htm

Finally it is not a competetion...only participation and completion that are important. You could walk the distance too..

Celebrities to add glitter

Sports Reporter

Hyderabad: A rare opportunity to run along with celebrities like Pullela Gopi Chand, Sania Mirza, Gagan Narang beckons one and all as the Intelli Group Hyderabad 10K half-marathon takes place in the city, from Peoples Plaza (Necklace Road) to Charminar and back, on November 27.

According to Aparna Reddy, chairperson of the event, about 25,000 participants are expected to run this time. "It may be recalled that the 10K Run was initially started as a10km run for promoting fitness, health and fun. But now we have decided to go one step forward. The plan includes converting this mega event into Hyderabad Marathon, on the lines of some of the world's famous marathons," she said.

The half-marathon is fully supported by various organisations including Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, HUDA, MCH , AP Police and Department of Tourism and Culture. With a prize money involved, the response this time is expected to be much big than the first two editions.

Former All England champion Pullela Gopi Chand, spokesperson of 10K Foundation, said the run stood also for a social cause and last year Rs. 2 lakhs was contributed towards heart surgeries for kids, and also to six adopted schools. "This year the plans include scholarships to young talent and also financial assistance to sportspersons of yesteryear," he explained.

Swaranjit Sen, Director General of Police, the brainchild of the half-marathon concept, lauded the efforts of the 10K Foundation in this regard. "Personally, I feel these events are essential for the society for the simple reason that physical fitness plays a significant role in the success of an individual," he said. "With the proceeds going to the Mission Sports — which is engaged in welfare activities — it is hoped the Hyderabadis will respond in a big way," he added. Mr. Sen formally handed over the first registration form to tennis sensation Sania Mirza and then to ace shooter Gagan Narang.

In her brief speech, Sania said the run would go a long way in ensuring a certain degree of awareness in terms of physical fitness amongst the citizens of twin cities. "If body permits me, I will be there at the venue," she remarked.

Further particulars about the run can be had from Ph: 55362894 or e-mail hyd10k@gmail.com.

They should've made some cool TV ads liek the ones for the Delhi Half Marathon....the one where they had the yeh daudega-woh daudega thing was awesome.

As for me running, well.....we did some 10K route marches (in uniform with the standard paraphernalia like dummies etc.) and 3 km cross country runs. But school was 15 years ago. Haven't run even 100 mts for the last 8 odd years. But walking should pose no challenge. Have done some ardous treks like the Parvati Valley in Manali just 4 years ago.

comming to the roots!

by Ash » Wed Nov 09, 2005 5:59 pm

Its a run that tells you whether the body, you are hanging arround with is a good machine. Maybe all the motors have removed the strain on legs but once in a while its really good to put them through rigorous strain, just to feel that you still belong to the animal world.

I am training with a buch of friends near KBR park. will giv u details later..
