'Only well known faces' ki baat nahi hai...acting bhi to aani chahiye...neways he is a better judge.
I was wondering how basanti's role wld. change in the remake...

Tell me one instance wherein he had a miscast in his films..... I think he brings the best in a person without his/her knowledge. Hez a legend to me.

He is not a legend or anything, he is just a director whose movies make a hero out of either the underworld or psycho people...he has succefully kept up an image of being this 'maverick' director who cast new artists, etc. and is different from Johar, barjatya or chopra by making movies on low budgets and on underworld and psychos as against high budget candy-floss movies. Most of his movies become hits because of their low budget.

I suppose the last movie that was a hit from his 'factory' was 'Bhoot' and then you have 'sarkar' this year, where you cannot ignore the Amitabh factor. Agreed he has fresh ideas sometimes, but most of his ideas are not long or complete enough to be made into a movie and most of his stories fizzle out after the first half.

Even while remaking sholay, he plans to make gabbar a villain from the underworld...can't he think of anything else???????

Have you seen Gayam (Jagapati babu), Shiva (first movie)?? It is entirely his direction and the way he can get the heroes to act that makes him a good director. Although I agree that he copies from hollywood and all his hit movies are based on underworld (Gayam, Shiva, Satya, D, Company, Ab tak chappan), they all have flawless direction, superb action by all actors and gripping story even if its a repeat. And he improves with every movie.

I would vote for RGV's underworld movies any day over the no brainer love flicks that bollywood belts out by the dozens every week.
May the Fries be with you!

i disagree betty. he is a 'maverick' coz he makes movies to satisfy himself and not the majority of the viewers. he is one of the few who has the guts to make different movies, irrespective of how many weeks they run. if he is not directing a movie, he is promoting new talented directors by producing movies for them (btw, its their films which generally have weak endings but this hasnt prevented him from encouraging new comers).

thats why he is a legend and any actor worth his or her talent wants to act with him.

abt movies on the underworld, he is not the only one who makes movies on this subject, but the only one to do it with style n polish. he has a flair for it. even each of his underworld movies are different from each other.

it is because of his movies that bollywood films learnt technical finese and now even a mediocre hindi film looks stylish.

even his own mega-flop 'Naach' had a unique n new screenplay (coupled with great acting by SmallB and others) which sadly the public did not appreciate.

he is able to sustain his 'Factory' coz most of his films (directed by himself or not) are successes in the sense that they all make money. they may not run well outside of Mumbai, South India and big cities but usually the opening week itself assures him a good profit.

so, he's not only a maverick, but an intelligent businessman too.

in short he is a Legend :D

why shud he? Dacoit dramas went out in the mid 70s. White wigged "smugglers" went out in the mid-80s. the anti-national theme doesnt suit this story. this is not a political story either, to make Gabbar a corrupt neta. what other role can u envision that suits Gabbar in this decade?
