Mangal pandey was a sepoy 5th company of 34th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry Regiment.
The commanding officer of that regiment Lt Col Wheler was a zealous Christian.
The attack took place at Barrackpore Cantonment near Calcutta on 29th March 1857.
Sepoy Mangalpandey initially injured his British NCO (Non Commissioned Officer).
Most importantly he then tried to shoot the Adjutant of the Battalion, Lieutenant- Baugh- a British officer.
Baugh escaped but injured by Mangal pandey with his sword.
Then the commanding officer came in front and ordered the Indian JCO (junior commissioned officer) Jemadar Ishwar Pandey to catch Mangal pandey.
But Ishwar pandey refused to do so.
Then Mangal Pandey tried to hurt himself.
But he was caught.
He was to be executed on 18th April.
But he was hanged to death along with the JCO (Ishwar Pandey) who refused to arrest Mangal during revolt on 8th April 1857.
Soon the revolt spread to the 3rd light cavalry regiment in Meerut
Mangal pandey was hanged in a place called Latbagan near Calcutta, which is an armed police barrack now.
That must be a martyrs tomb still there.

Unfortunately in this movie there is not much historic events.
This may not be a good movie for the lovers of true history like movie.

Well there are other theories too. According to one it was the British who created the legend of Mangal Pandey. History tells us that the sepoy mutiny started in north India by people who had held Bhahadursha Zaffar the king of India & began the battle against the British army. Mangal Pandey was very far from the place where the mutiny started.

History takes the back seat when Bollywood is concerned. Volumes are written in the papers often leading to political controversies. But what the producers & directors are willing to hear is how the cash register is ringing at the movie halls. I havent seen this film but what I hear is that the registers are singing a bit.

The Movie's Received Bouquets as well as Brickbats tho the latter are More.

There are Conflicting rumours as to the Movie receiving a "Standing Ovation" at Locarno as well as "Everyone Snubbing It". I am Inclined to believe the latter.

For,the comparisions are bound to be there with Lagaan which the Foreign audience loved. And Whatever they loved in Lagaan was not there in Rising. The Music Primarily

And in some places the So-Called Critics have converted the tirade against Mangal Pandey into Aamir-Bashing taking his 'Affair' with Jessica Haines and their 'Child'.

And BTW,Did anyone Read Mahesh Bhatt's Article in DC?

People are crazy, at times are strange. I am locked-in tight, I am out of range.
I used to care, but things have changed.
