Mangal pandey was a sepoy 5th company of 34th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry Regiment.
The commanding officer of that regiment Lt Col Wheler was a zealous Christian.
The attack took place at Barrackpore Cantonment near Calcutta on 29th March 1857.
Sepoy Mangalpandey initially injured his British NCO (Non Commissioned Officer).
Most importantly he then tried to shoot the Adjutant of the Battalion, Lieutenant- Baugh- a British officer.
Baugh escaped but injured by Mangal pandey with his sword.
Then the commanding officer came in front and ordered the Indian JCO (junior commissioned officer) Jemadar Ishwar Pandey to catch Mangal pandey.
But Ishwar pandey refused to do so.
Then Mangal Pandey tried to hurt himself.
But he was caught.
He was to be executed on 18th April.
But he was hanged to death along with the JCO (Ishwar Pandey) who refused to arrest Mangal during revolt on 8th April 1857.
Soon the revolt spread to the 3rd light cavalry regiment in Meerut
Mangal pandey was hanged in a place called Latbagan near Calcutta, which is an armed police barrack now.
That must be a martyrs tomb still there.
Unfortunately in this movie there is not much historic events.
This may not be a good movie for the lovers of true history like movie.
