It is still Red Hat, buddy. Fedora Core is just a community-based branch of what was previously known as Red Hat (Free version, not enterprise linux). Red Hat still owns the copyright to the words Fedora Core and the fedora logo.

Personally, I find Fedora much suited for beginners. It avoids the Windows-like look of Mandrake and SuSE and also avoids the geekiness of Debian and Gentoo.
