best Indian players in Hockey

Dhyan Chand / Ajit pal singh

there will always be a toss up...the mercurial DC or the explosive Ajit pal singh who died at a young age...

legends abound for both....

DC is said to have dribbled to british goal...brought back the ball to top of D and again dribbled back to score a goal....ball never left his blade....his sticks were broken apart to check why....

Ajit pal is said to have shot a hole on the board with a hit from top of the board......he had more number of goals than the number of matches he played...and was unstoppable due to sheer spped...

Oooohhhhh JMK...you forgot the baap of all hockey players...the great Dhyan Chand. Speaking of which, Hockey greats abound in India. 8 Olympic golds in the sport are ample testimony of India's past glory.

As for the PHL, I feel that the teams to watch out for would be Hyderabad Sultans and Bangalore Hi-flyers. Other teams are going to be tough too...but on paper, these are the two that appear the strongest.

DUDE!!! I was going to start this thread and logged in tonite to see it here already. Although I know nothing about hockey and its greats, I am willing to learn everything just to promote a sport besides cricket. I strongly belive that it is leagues like this that really help a sport take off.

As a next step I wanna see the teams being owned by a group of people rather than a government organization. I also hope the government does everything to help the PHL like lifting ban on liqour in the stadiums, making the liquor here tax-free (atleast ppl will come for the booze) and providing place in the centre of the city for a new stadium for hockey that is accessible to more people (trains guns on LB Stadium). Then I want the private owners to rope in celebs to come and watch the games (atleast ppl willl come to see celebs in the flesh) (trains guns on Chiranjeevi). All said and done I hope after atleast 2 years people will come to watch for the pure love of the game.

I wanna go to every single game in Hyderabad. I'm looking for people to go with. Anybody?? First match is on Thursday the 13th.

Sorry JMK....Blame it on my eyes...I somehow read the DC in your post as DP (Dhanraj Pillay). My bad.

Mumbai Warriors thrashed Chennai Veerans today. I'm looking forward to the Bangalore Hi-flyers. They look to be the most balanced side in the contest.

Mumbai had a wonderful synergy between the half-line and the forwards. Remarkable play by Viren, Kashif Jawad, Dhanraj & Devinder.

Me too saw that match of today. I always liked Viren Rasquina. But today, I became a complete fan! His defence is just too good! And, yes, that Dhanraj Pillay move when the Chennai Veerans had the penalty corner which reversed into a goal for the Maratha Warriors was outstanding.

Was just browsing the PHL website and I feel its very poorly done. There is no info on tickets for the matches. The results page is still not up after 2 days of matches. And out of 20 pics in the pictures section, 9 are broken links.

Not at all something expected from ESPN/Star Sports.

Yesterdays match was much much better. Really fast and happening. Thats what will bring in the crowds.

The 2 pakistanis playing for maratha warriors did a gr8 job.

I am also lookig forward to todays game.
