Thank You so much Rocky, Kiddo, Akhil bhau, vakibs, XYZee and WC!

And since you people be sooo nice, I will give a detailed report.
Kata: Gold!!!!!Emmanuel Sempai did not take part in this tournament, otherwise the 'Open' category Gold might as well have been pre-awarded to him. He and Hemant sir were both officiating.
Semi-final: Performed
Wankan. Made one mistake in that, altho the judges dint seem to notice/mind. Glanced at Sempai while i was facing him and he was looking at my footwork, so promptly perked it up.
Final: The final was an extremely nervous affair. Me wanted to prove myself, while sempai wanted to make sure that I dint goof up (which i almost did

). When my opponent performed
Wanshu, Sempai motioned with his eyes from the judges seat to do the same kata. I wanted to do
Bassai-Dai, an advanced and very difficult kata, but Sempai had asked me to do
Wanshu, because it was easy. I also sensed that it would be best to do the easier kata.
Went into the arena with Eminem shrieking in my mind:
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy... If ever there was a an example of biutterflies in the tummy, this was it! Bowed to the chief judge, and shouted out the name of my kata:
Bassai-Dai!.

I was shocked at my own voice! Did the kata in a totally shocked semi-concious zombie-like purely mechanical manner. I do not even remember one single moment of that performance. Alhamdulillah, I held my nerves long enough to perform the kata. When I finally exited the arena, the nervous tension going away was like air rushing out of a punctured balloon!
Said sorry to Sempai later for disregarding his advise; but he was extremely pleased that his student had the guts to perform such a hard kata in his first tournament.

Hemant sir did not take part this time, so as to allow others to win; he is the current All-India champion.

My opponent (the eventual runners up) was an extremely unfriendly looking yellow belt, with stiches on his cheek where he prolly got slashed by a knife

. He was an extremely compact fighter. Rohini later told me that she had seen him compete with distinction against experienced black belts in another tournament. I started brilliantly and was up 9-6, until abt 50 seconds were left to go; and then my opponent and the referee decided to go completely insane.
He punched me directly on my throat, which is an illegal attack. I feigned injury and the referee gave him a C2 warning for Dangerous Attack; but the punch threw me off my rythm. He was short, quick and got through a couple of stomach punches, which were hitting my forearm because I had my left arm guarding my stomach area. He was only hitting my forearm and not my tummy, but the referee gave three consecutive points to him.
When abt 5 seconds were left, Lata shrieked "Kick! Kick!" and I scored a 3-pointer with a perfect roundhouse kick which he could not block. All the people cheering my opponent went "Awwww". But the bastard referee disregarded the judges' flags and motioned "play on". The only problem was that he had ducked slightly and my kick went over his head. The points should have been awarded to me as ducking is not allowed, but the referee had already decided that I was to lose. Anyway, normal time ended with us locked at 9-9 (or 6-6, whtever the score was).
Now, it was
hikiwake, sort of like a sudden death or golden goal situation. The one who scored first would win the bout. He lunged at me with a stomach punch again. I blocked his punch and caught his wrist in a single motion, punched him in the face, and waited for the referee to call the bout off; he did not. I had not let go of his arm and punched him two more times, but the referee was not awarding me the point! According to the rule, we can only hold an opponents arm for 2-3 seconds. I let go his arm, and he promptly punched me in the stomach. And got the point from the damn referee.

Would have atleast got a silver in Sparring, if not for that idiot referee and my own inexperience. Got a barrage of scolding from Lata and Sempai for relaxing late into the bout.

Anyway, had a lot of fun on both days. After the days events used to be acalled off, and the seniors/teachers all went back to the lodge, we would all enjoy in the large hall, singing songs on the announcers mic and dancing and doing the cat-walk in the arena!

Next time, inshaAllah, if I am able to compete in a tournament, my aim will be to compete in the 'Open' category and prove myself by winning atleast one bout in Kata and Kumite both.
