We've always had a sizeable middle-class....though they haven't really been mainstream.

india has a huge middle class which is what is attracting the international white-goods industry. here the middle class is anouncing its presence only in malls n markets, not in politics

Indian middle class is huge - 300 million, more than entire population of europe, but only 30% of Indian population. It is hyge no doubt but how huge was it at independance? C

apathy has become the way of life. all we really care for is ourselves which is not bad, not bad at all. but, doing something for others who're not that fortunate should be given more than just a passing thought.
