Jokes apart, I feel MENSA to be an organisation of snobbish bloated egos. I shunned MENSA after having qualified to join it as the organisation has a ZERO social contribution, which, IMHO should be the very basis for existence for an organisation boasting of the cream of world intelligence.

SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!!

I'm sorry to have dampened quite a few moods here and I'm sorry for that. But truth always stands true.

I meant an organisation which takes people in based on their intelligence. Timepass-giri is not bad but then I don't think being the member of Deccan Gymkhana gives you the same respect as being a MENSAN. My point was that the organisation owes the society some service atleast for the respect that its getting from society.

I think dampen was an understatement there. and so much of humidity is worse during summers. Try being in bombay or chennai during summers. :)

I'm sorry again guys.

i feel that people with high IQ need to have fun too and interact with peers...and thats the point of Mensa i think. (Can any Mensans clarify on this?)

the high respect is just incidental. it is accorded that in society coz its a gathering of people of high IQ...thats it.

if the members wanna serve society they can join any other organzation or NGO too...
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

RE: Mensa

Hey there,

This idea of mensa being snobbish is not new - but it is totally wrong. There may be a few snobbish ppl - but they would've been snobbish anyway - mensa or not.

Perfectionist, what did u do after joining mensa that u feel now that it is a useless org? I have been a mensan for 2+ years now (and incidentally am on the core team with Shameek for starting a mensa Hyd) and I find that it is one of the best orgs coz it gives u complete freedom. It doesnt stop u from doing anything u want to do - socialise, do social/community service, make friends, discuss, debate etc etc.. The possibilites are endless - but u have to make the effort for we are a do-it-urself organization. The role of mensa is to identify ppl with a high IQ and bring them together on a platform - hopefully, u'll find ppl with common interests and then u can have a rollicking time.

I've met (as in personally) over 20+ ppl who are now my friends thanks to mensa. In addition, I've contacts with dozens more around the world. And just an fyi, we have a discussions board too that is very active. While u will not be eligible to read thru it - for u are not a member - u might want to just take a peek - just to see the diversity of interests that are catered to by mensans - for mensans. Its at http://inmensa.suddenlaunch.com

Speaking of which, the test dates for Hyd is 10/11 July, 2004. Registrations will open very shortly.

RE: Mensa Test

by maximus » Sun May 02, 2004 2:22 pm

HI,

Thanks for the enthusiasm. It's definitely worth a shot - this is a pure IQ test - not abt ur math/verbal abilities like GRE or CAT. So anyone can take it and their previous academic record will be no indicator of their chances.

We have had IIT/IIM ppl who have not qualified, yet a 12th std pass student has managed to make it in. So ur academic credentials are no guarentee of ur chances.

Will definitely keep this place updated abt registrations. Thanks and I hope that in a few months, Hyd will have more Mensans to interact and know!!

Ok, so now its official. The registrations for mensa Hyd test are now open and we are gonna accept only 300 applications (since that is the max we can test on 2 days). For more details on the test and how to contact us, please see http://mensahyd.sphosting.com

Please spread the message and we are hoping to see a good response from the Hyd crowd.

Thanks!!!
