My friend was telling me about some Americans who spend at least $400 a month taking care of their pet cats and dogs. And one of the Americans was contemplating taking his dog to an animal psychatrist because the dog showed signs of "feeling bad" over something that had happened.

Its a fact, walk into any super store, 6-8% of the store is dedicated to the petfood section.

If half this money was spent around the globe, there would be no need to go to war. The world would have been a safer place with every body with equal oppurtunity.

And if you are a enviromentalist, you could feed your pets left overs saving our waters and drains of unnecessary garbage.

Wait till u read this.....
Some pets aren’t just pampered, they’re rich as well. Jasper, a Labrador Doberman cross, is one of Britain’s wealthiest animals. After inheriting £50,000 from his previous owner and some shrewd investments on the stock market, he’s now worth in the region of £130,000.

A newspaper has unleashed a list of the top 20 richest pets in the world, and they're worth a whopping £306 million between the lot of them.Topping the animal rich list is Gunther IV, an alsatian who can get his paws on £180 million after his dad's owner left them loads of cash in 1992.

what ppl. do with there pets is their business. they tend to get emotionally attached and hence at times may go a bit too far. but theres nothing wrong in feeding good food to pets.

theres nothing wrong in what PETA is doing, but why the hell is it being compared to whats happening in a war torn country?

DQ has smoothly moved from talking abt. iraq to talking abt. people dying of hunger in the locality. if this was ur original intention why didnt u mention it in you first post itself?
People are crazy, at times are strange. I am locked-in tight, I am out of range.
I used to care, but things have changed.

If its just one of those, of the hand comments that you let out its ok. But how can you justify, spending hundreds to millions of dollars for a cause, where as half the world reels in poverty and hunger.

DQ, this could be extended to any spending at all. are you asking people to only spend money on things that are essential for their existance, and only contribute to causes that will help the half of the world that are in poverty and hunger? as for spending time, if you had to account for how many minutes and hours of your life you spent helping those poorest of people as a proportion of your overall life, it'd look pretty sorry even if you're an extremely charitable person.

bottom line, of course we should be extremely concerned with the state of humanity, but that doesn't stop us from tending to interests close to our hearts, either.

damn...i never saw that ^^^ in the previous page....

so here it is: i am arguing coz i believe the animal rights group are doing an important job.

there are 100s of organizations working for human betterment (whether they do a good job or not is not the question), so whats wrong if a handfull of groups fight for other God's creatures.

for instance PETA is responsible for western countries passing laws ensuring humane treatment of animals in abbatoirs and many other animal cruelty laws. if u feel that is wrong, i think u havent evolved much from the neanderthal stage yet....

i think ppl took tht fact a bit too seriously. i just meant to highlight the fact tht its spending way too much thn something tht can be acceptable. its ok to look after somethin u like so much but to be spendin billions on them? how much do u think is adequate?

we can only have our own guesses abt. how much is the limit. people are free to choose what to spend on.
