Smell of fresh rain

by Fun Kay » Fri Jun 02, 2006 5:01 pm

I'm sittin' here in ma office, and it's rainin' outside...

And while all my colleagues are enjoying the smell of fresh rain on dry earth, i'm ready to puke!

I think i'm the only one in the world who can't stand that smell!!

Hence I've been encouraged to start this thread!!

Smell of rain

by VJ » Fri Jun 02, 2006 8:37 pm

Yeah! Its true, you look to be one of the kind. The smell of the rain and soil cannot be obtained in any other parts of the world other than India and any other Asian soil. Open your nose and keep enjoying it. Feel it and sense the difference.

it is not true that it cannot be sensed any where else other than India. I smelt it in Australia... And there is a word for it.. it is called Petrichor.

Sorry! If Iam wrong. When I was abroad i didn't sense it. In fact there was lot of snow out there and little rain.

@VJ

Obviously you need to have dry ground - without tar to get that smell. Thanks for the wordsmith link, now I know why. Looks like Fun kay is allergic to aromas :D

Yes, dry ground and I know where it is available.... in Phoenix!!!

Yes my friends, 110 F and low humidity results in a very dry dry ground and last few days I have been spraying water on sun baked bricks just so that I can smell them :oops:
