Help Planning Holiday III

by IMFBreturns » Tue May 10, 2005 1:07 pm

Well...after seeing mark put his up, I was thinking of doing this and then jasz cut me off on the idea...anyway...

My brother and mom are coming down to india in a week and they wanted to go see Bangalore-Mysore-Ooty. HP gave me some really good things but I wanted some more ideas from everyone and thought that this was the place.

Main idea is like a 7-10 day trip with about 9-10 ppl (uncle aunt, their kids, mom, brother, me, wife and my son (two and a half)). Leaving somewhere around the 23rd. My brother doesn't really wanna travel by bus (says it wouldn't be an india trip if we don't go on the train) and with the amount of ppl...it should be a comfortable and relaxing trip...although that would never happen i guess...but anyway....

HP's plan was good...but wanted some more ideas on whats around. here's whats there so far:

Bangalore - 1-2 days (Tipu Sultan's palace and Bull Temple = shopping)

Mysore - 3 days (Jaganmohan Art Gallery, mysore palace, Krishnasagar dam, chamundeshwari temple , brindavan gardens and bandipur national park)

Ooty-3 days (Ooty lake; botanical gardens). Go to Coonoor (sim's park, pasteur institute, dolphins nose and drive to masanigudi. Take the narrow gauge train from ooty to mettupalyam.

leave from coimbatore to hyd.

Can you tell me if this is good enough or any other alternatives?

Thx!!!

the schedule above is good enough, except that your family has to be careful about the heat in Mysore.

for more convenience hire a large van for the bangalore-Mysore-Ooty leg.

your brother's craving for trains can be taken care of from hyd to b'lore and coimbatore to hyd :)

avoid group package tours as much as possible - those _ dont give any time to take in any sites at your pace...esp at Brindavan Gardens, Mysore Palace etc. hire yr own van and if required, a guide.

One more thing, if your family is not hell bent on visiting Ooty, i suggest u try out Coorg after Mysore. unlike Ooty its not dirty or crowded and more green too. u can also visit the Tala Kaveri, the source of Kaveri river in the Western Ghats.
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

Hey thanks CAD. Now I have anew puzzle for you.

My brother doesnt wanna go to Bandipur Park or visit Coonoor. He was saying that if there was something more to do in Bangalore then perhaps we could slightly change the trip. Do you think it's advisable to perhaps put a day in Ooty and then head to Croog or vice versa? How far are they from each other? What do you recommend as far as a new schedule from Mysore (still need to end up in Coimbatore to catch the train)?

Ah! one more thing...what are the prices for hotels around there. I was told that it could be more expensive to stay in Ooty than say Coimbatore? I don't really wanna burn a big hole in the bdget and all...not there is a budget but trying to be reasonably on the cheaper side wherever we can.

Ooty and Coorg are too far apart. Choose one of them to visit from either bangalore or mysore. they are in two seperate directions and you could spend lot of time travelling. like i said b4, i recommend coorg for a peaceful holiday.

if u r going to Ooty, Coonoor is automatically part of the itenerary. its unavoidable and all tour operators take u there....tell yr bro its got gr8 sights to see...:). its just abt an hour's jeep ride away from ooty and is on the Ooty-Metupalayam train route.

Staying at C'tore and visiting ooty daily is a strain, forget abt it. there are hotels to suit various budgets in ooty, but remember that u r going in the peak season and rooms wud be expensive, compared to off-season.

Now my brother didn't wanna go to Coonoor...so I was thinking from Mysore go to Coorh and then stay 2 days there and then come back to mysore (it's about 120kms from what i hear) and then continue the rest of the trip to ooty and then Coimbatore?! Do you think this would be too much?

i dont understand this...coonoor is almost like a suburb of Ooty...seperated by abt 20kms i think....and it is a part of any sight-seeing tour from ooty....u dont need to stay in coonoor...its just abt half hour away from ooty. what does yr bro have against Coonoor? :)

too much travelling in a short time...other than this there is no problem. if u extend yr tour by a 2-3 days u will get time to relax at some place too...

I don't think he wanted to go to in a car the whole way and wanted to get rid of the places where he had to sit for a while...honestly...i dunno...

he and my mom are arriving in Hyd tonite (14th early morning) so i can sit with him and discuss...he was saying if there's nothing else to see in bangalore...then the whole trip can be done in a week...so if he's up for coorg...then it could be 10 days...I think that should be sufficient?!
