Vishakapatnam

by Sujatha » Tue Jan 25, 2005 7:21 pm

In the evening after getting fresh at our room in Vishakapatnam, we directly went to the famous Ramakrishna beach.

Ramakrishna beach.
In the evening hours that too in December the climate along the Vishakapatnam R.K beach was superb. We could see the brightly lit fishing harbour and Navy areas from the beach. Beach was visibly clean. It has a good walking track. You could find some high-end hotels including the Taj on the sides of the beach road. We walked relaxedly. There are a few chat corners giving hot chat varieties. All of a sudden, I came along a peculiar structure. It is the famous SUBMARINE MUSEUM KURSURA. The entry ticket was Rs 25/-. We had to wait for 30 minutes. They are sending the tourists in groups of thirty. One retired Navy staff explained the functioning as well as the difficulties of the Sub marines. VUDA (Vishakapatnam Urban Development Authority) maintains This Museum.

Liquor shops

In Vishakapatnam plenty of liquor shops are there. Everywhere in the street corner you can see plenty of them with unofficial (? semi official) mini bars along the sides. Most people say that the liquor is of impure quality. I kept a decent distance from them.

Simhachalam

Next day morning we went to the AP Tourism office situated in RTC complex. I promise you that the city sight seeing tour conducted by AP Tourism is commendable. First, they took us to Simhachalam temple. The tourist bus climbed a small hillock to reach the temple. The main deity here (Narasimha) is fully covered with white mud. The priests told me that, they remove the mud only once in a year. Otherwise, the angry spirit of Narasimha will destroy everybody.

NAVY

Then the bus came down to the city. It passed through Head Quarters, Eastern Naval Command and other Navy areas, vizag port, vizag ship yard etc. Then we came to the DOLPHIN NOSE area. As such, the areas are under the control of Navy. We could see their accommodation. The atmosphere was wonderful.

YARADA BEACH
We then came to the wonderful YARADA BEACH. I promise you that I have never seen such a clean and broad beach. The main attraction here is the beach volleyball. So Many youngsters , and girls are playing beach volleyball here. To my surprise, the ball bounces from the floor, because the sand over here is slightly hard and the surface is flat. I tell you I have never seen such a beautiful beach even in Goa and kerala. We spent some time in Brook Fields Beach Resort over there. They collected an entry fee of Rs10/-

Rushikonda beach
From there we proceeded to Ramakrishna beach once again. We had our lunch at the AP Tourisms Punnami restaurant. From there our next target was Rushikonda beach. This is one of the popular beaches. Unfortunately, this is overcrowded. AP Tourism maintains a sea viewing cottage and restaurant here. You can hire speedboats from here. We could see enormous number of Bengali tourists.

Kailasgiri

Our bus then proceeded to the famous Kailasgiri hills. The main attraction over there is the ROPEWAY (wink). It is named as Kailasgiri passenger ropeway. They charge Rs35/- for the double ride. You can start from top of the hillock. They will drop you down on the road. You can then climb up. The journey hardly takes 7 minutes. Continuously the carriages are moving along the conveyer belt. I saw a Ropeway, for the first time In India. Is there any other with ropeway in India?

MGM Amusement park
Then our bus came to the Ramakrishna beach side once again. We had tea and snacks in Punnami restaurant. Finally, they took us to the MGM Theme park. For public the amusement park charge around Rs120/-. However, as pleasant surprise they charged only Rs30/- for the AP Tourism members. We played six playoffs. I could not see much crowd over there.

For the one day sight seeing tour they collect an amount of Rs280/-. The tour finished at about 2000 hrs. I felt very sad.

Anyway, green memories of Vishakapatnam will always remain in my heart.

My next topic is on Nagarjunasagar and Historic Anupu.

Looks like a good place to visit. I have not been to many beaches (just Juhu) and would love to visit a place like Vishakapatnam.

Visakhapatnam ..aah you made me nostalgic ..my sweet home ..the moon-lit beach

Me and muh friend used to escape early in the morning to the beach ..sit in the sand ..take a puff of the cig and watch the sunrise ..and just indulge in the moment ..bask in the morning rays ..forget about college ..parents ..life ..girls ..and just listen to the waves battering the shore and the wind rushing away from the sea ..mmmhhhh ..the salty air ..the humidity ..and thats when it hits ya ..you ran outta cigarettes and its time to hit the road back into the concrete jungle ..

Oh! how wonderful it would be to wake up one morning and find muhself back in my b.tech days ..but I got it covered ..I got my time. quantum, velocity, gravity, mass, tetraic equations down ..all I need now is a worm hole ..
What came first, chicken or egg?
Depends on what you ordered first.

Hi CAD,

I have gone TO HAMPI by the organised tour conducted by Karnataka tourism few years ago.

I was not satisfied with one day tour.

I spent NEXT two more days in Hampi.

We can write pages of stories over that place.

Unfortunately At present I have no strong memories.
