A day of great shame.

by Amit » Sat Nov 13, 2004 1:55 am

Today was the one of the most insulting days in our history. The way

Sankarcharya - the greatest of our spiritual gurus was arrested in

such a humiliating way.

Tell you what, Hinduism today is impotent. There

is not a hint of protest anywhere. Today, "Wish the Men in Blue for

the match against Pakistan" message boards like these is where you'd

find all pseudo-intellectual, "elite" indians would throng to. And,

the news of Sankaracharya's arrest is relegated to third / fourth "top

story". Today, even if a suspected ISI agent is arrested, angry mobs

would bring governements to its knees. And today, is the same day when

Sankacharya being huddled away during a puja on the eve of Deepavali

evokes hardly any reaction from people. It's even more devastating to know that both these occured in this very own city of mine - Hyderabad.

No doubt there is something terribly wrong with the world we are in. No doubt we are a part of it and no doubt we are all responsible for it.

I can't imagine how mean could a man become all for power. No doubt the whole sequence of events was foisted by our messiah of the downtrodden - karunanidhi. We need a Vivekananda. We need a Vivekananda to do what Adi Sankara did in his lifetime. We need reform. We need organization. We need an identity.

No sweat off my balls.

Agree that the religion is impotent. But not because the arrest was not protested. It is so because the custodians of the religion (read clergy) are deviating from their path and are getting involved into worldly matters like state politics et al. Why? who knows if he was really involved in the murder? Going by the way these sanyasis behave, its an insult to the very institution of Sanyas.

And pray tell me...what's wrong in wishing the men in blue success against pakistan? Atleast they give us something to feel proud about. What have these modern day Shankaracharyas given us?

Amit wrote:Today, even if a suspected ISI agent is arrested, angry mobs would bring governements to its knees. And today, is the same day when Sankacharya being huddled away during a puja on the eve of Deepavali evokes hardly any reaction from people.

Again....I'm very much against the protests that happen when suspected ISI operatives are arrested. Because that is an obstruction of justice. Now, does it mean that if dogs bite you, you bite them back? (No offense intended against muslim bretheren).

Amit wrote:No doubt there is something terribly wrong with the world we are in. No doubt we are a part of it and no doubt we are all responsible for it.

Yes...we are responsible for what's happening around us. Open your eyes...open your heart...and never forget that we are all children of the same God. Religion is manmade. If you are in sync with the universal truth, you will never feel any difference between a hindu and a muslim and a christian and whatever.

Amit wrote:I can't imagine how mean could a man become all for power.

Neither can I. I can't believe how much power has blinded these custodians of our religion. Its commonplace to see them huddled close to politicians. Can a common man like you or me gain audience with these pontiffs that easily? No. Why? Isn't this a clear proof of power blinding the great Shankaracharyas too?

Amit wrote:No doubt the whole sequence of events was foisted by our messiah of the downtrodden - karunanidhi. We need a Vivekananda. We need a Vivekananda to do what Adi Sankara did in his lifetime. We need reform. We need organization. We need an identity.

There is an AIADMK government that rules TN. And your beloved Karunanidhi is in the opposition. How can the opposition so blatantly use government machinery to further its agenda? Togadia said tha and you believed him. So much for potency.

by godmen » Sat Nov 13, 2004 11:34 am

ITS HIGH TIME FROM SHANKARACHARYA'S EPISODE THAT WE DO NOT MAKE HUMANS INTO GOD.

WE SHOULD RESPECT THE SCHOLARS/SAINTS BUT TO A LEVEL WHERE THEY DO NOT THINK OR ACT LIKE GOD. WE HAVE A GOOD EXAMPLE OF SO MAY STORIES FROM PUTTAPARTHI AND OTHER SMALLER SO CALED GOD'S.

SO WE ALL ARE RELIGIOUS. PRAY GOD BUTRELIGION SHOULD BE IN YOUR HOME.IT SHOULD NOT STEP OUTSIDE THE HOUSE. ITS SOMETHING PERSONAL. SO NOW WE SHOULD STOP PREACHING GODMEN AND LOOK FOR PEACE IN GOD

PuTTY's clone used to imitate him when he was a kid.. sitting at the marketplace in Kurnool and prophesise. After he grew up, he also grew his hair the same way and decided to get a job as a godman. I don't know the real reason between the conflict between the original PuTTY and his clone. :D

Re: A day of great shame.

First off, I am nothing to do with the VHP and I have often been critical of its attempts of "churchification" of the Hindu religion. Secondly, I am no NRI either, I travel extensively on work though.

I don't believe in godmen. Sankacharya, all the same. Now, all that I was venting my angst was coz of the "differential" treatment. I just get pissed off with the way things that work aren't the same for all religions. That's all. If you had read what I had written, I had called in for reformation of Hinduism. I know theat Religion as a bundle of such socio-cultural norms evolves over time. Sure enough, every religion develops some norms and

practices, which are against the very basic principles that the religion was supposed to stand for. That is why every relgion needs reformers from time to time, who will correct the course. Reformers have a more difficult time in religions that are based on one book, where all truth was revealed to a chosen one at a particular point in history and no further revelations are either possible or permitted. On the other hand, relgions like Hinduism, Shintoism and other pagan religions have a constant evolution and reform is accepted as a continuous process, even though there might be some resistance.

Dude, honestly, I am quite glad I stumbled upon someone like you - a classic case of malformed evolution - who cant think of anything beyond heaping one helluva lot of crap on anything that sounds above one's intellectual capacity. Just that I am disappointed you stand by psydellic rock - what you flaunt in most annoyingly glaring ways. You have no clue what rock stands for, save religion for the never.

A small caveat here. You'd find the word "our", which i had forgotten to qualify. Hope you'd find where you rightfully belong.

i wish so too, but i am not really sure he is reachable.

How do u think they could ever reach him when you see the prime ministers/presidents of the past touching his feet?

And there was one particular show on BBC once about this god man, by a brit indian chick where she tries to investiga ehe case of eh murder of 2 boys in his ashram in 1991. the most interesting part of the story was her interview with Murli Manohar joshi, i did nt know he was such an asss hole, heturned violent and almost hit the documentary maker.

And who says India is the only democracy where religion does not interfeere in its smooth functioning?

Nobody ever said you are a VHP office bearer. We just said you sounded like one. Chill.

Amit wrote:Now, all that I was venting my angst was coz of the "differential" treatment. I just get pissed off with the way things that work aren't the same for all religions. That's all.

That's where you sounded like one.

Again....I never objected the reform message in your post. I only objected against the premise on which you called for reform. Just because a clergyman was arrested on a festival? Amuses me that you had to call me a case of malinformed evolution.

Amit wrote:Dude, honestly, I am quite glad I stumbled upon someone like you - a classic case of malformed evolution - who cant think of anything beyond heaping one helluva lot of crap on anything that sounds above one's intellectual capacity. I didn't heap any crap on you. I just presented my P-o-V on the topic you raised. As for my avatar, its not about psychedellic rock my dear friend....its about psychedellica itself. And yes...I have no clue what rock stands for. I just like listening to it and immensely enjoy it.

But if you talk about religion, I invite you to a debate on the boards. Let's see what we can gain from the exercise.

Sure dude, we could debate all that's about religion, life, universe and everything on some other thread probably. Sorry for being rather offensive, one of those moments of hyper-reaction. And yes, I am not sure why you disagree to my point of "differential" treatment.
