going "Apple" after working on windows wud lead to problems abt software compatibility. most of the software available are designed for Windows simply coz its the most widely used OS, unlike Macs.

Make sure all the software u use, have a Mac version too. Yes, MS Office comes in a seperate Mac version also.

Macs are more known for excellent multimedia capabilities, so they are largely used in the Multimedia industry. unless u really do things that wud make use of a Mac's power (like multimedia), i dont think the high cost of purchase is justified.

dont go for Mac just for the heck of it. for normal use (emails, net, MS Office etc) Windows OS serves the purpose just fine.

...but if yr office is paying, what the heck....go for it...!
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

i want to buy it just for that......fun :D in office i use XP anyway.....high cost?......for same cost as a 1.6 G intel, i get a 1G ibook :) rest of features are similar......thats if office is free ....else another 10-15k more  the engineering tools i use, shall use on a workstation or PC in office, i have no intensions of running programmes on my notebook..........all i use is net, email, office etc and a back-up for the data from office as excel files..............so, i want to know, how easy or difficult to transfer files (office) from windows to OSX...........i am just weighing this option with IBM R40, coz this one has a shock-absorber for hard-disk......

i think i have to look for people using an ibook now.......to talk directly/get a demo...........[/b]

oh boy...u seem to have lots of cash to spare!

there are many tools that wud transfer files between the two. i havent used Mac, so i cant recommend any. an easy way for small files is to store them in internet (yahoo briefcase, mail attachment etc) from yr PC and download them to the iBook. but u have to ensure yr iBook has the requisite s/w to open the transfered files.
