The recent \'Clean City Award\' received by the MCH (Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad) is indeed a feather in the cap for a historical city like Hyderabad which till the other day was known to be a crowded and \'not so clean\' city. Moreover news has just come in that Hyderabad has been selected for Cities Alliance programme (CAP) of world Bank and UN Centre for Human Settlements (UNCHS). This has been announced by the coordinator for World Bank-UNCHS, Ms Mariko Sato. She has mentioned that Hyderabad was the only city from India selected for the Cities Alliance programme and observed that it was the cleanest and the most well-maintained city.
Last year\'s Clinton\'s visit and the recent \'Partnership summit\' have been a watershed in the history of Hyderabad. Both these events have been a catalyst for Hyderabad\'s transformation into the big league.
The state government\'s Janmabhoomi programme has also been instrumental in making the city green and beautiful all over. Over a dozen flyovers that are coming up in the city have also helped in transforming the city into a hi tech city with beautiful gardens set up in a splendid manner below those huge flyovers. The flyover near the secretariat with its red railings and well laid out garden underneath has indeed changed the entire landscape of the secretariat road. And now with the soon to be opened stunning NTR gardens coming up near that area, the entire stretch from the secretariat flyover to the Lumbini park till the Necklace road will indeed take the breath of anybody new to the city.
It this is not enough than take the road towards the Indira Park cross road which has been transformed almost overnight. The road from lower Tank Bund till the RTC x road has been widened. A very notable feature of this particular area is that the the Indira park road opposite RamaKrishna mutt which was hitherto totally walled has been replaced with open railing and the Indira park in its full majesty is now open for one and all to see and enjoy. The cross road at the Indira park junction is so marvelous that it has to be seen to be believed.
The Jubilee hills area and the Banjara Hills area starting from Road no:1 to Road no3 and all the way till the Hi-tech city has become a riders delight. These are just a few examples of the kind of changes that are being witnessed in the city.
Of course there are slums and bad areas spread mainly across the outskirts of the city. Nevertheless the heart of Hyderabad city is on a changing spree. Kudos to Mr.Naidu, HUDCO and the municipal authorities. If the same work continues than the likes of Singapore is not far away!
