Afro Asian Games in Hyderabad

by Dream Boy » Sat Aug 30, 2003 12:29 pm

Its a good sign for the developing Hyderabad in our country and in the present competetive world. Media coverage must be given by all media of our country (especially electronic). Best of luck for all the participants in the coming Afro-Asian games. It\'s all the efforts of our hardworking CM. Afro-Asian Games and Olympic Games are the dreams of our CM. The CM has done a very good job and has made our Hyderabad and AP as the sports capital of India. Best wishes to our beloved CM for conducting Afro-Asian Games in our Hyderabad.

I heard it\'s gonna cost around 160 crores. Of course, most of it will be put by the centre and our state wouldn\'t be burdened. I am all too excited about the media coverage our city would get, and of course the improvement in the roads and the greenery all around it.

Its true that it\'ll cost a lot to host these games, but think about the revenue it\'ll earn through the sponsers. Also, it brings in National Pride \'cos these games are the first of its kind. And unlike the National Games participants, the atheletes will be put up in 5 star hotels it seems. And this is also the first time players will be given ID cards even before they enter India. It seems authorised people will go to their countries and personally handover the ID cards so only genuine people can enter the country. Cool, isnt it?

It\'s true. I agree with you, but in the case of the National Games, one blame had been faced. That is of purchasing the Players from Other states. It must not be repeated. It were the National Games. So every one should take it in the spirit of National Integration. Now the Games must be conducted as the Olympic Games. Strict rules must be followed and no more adoptions of players. Everyone in our country and in our state is feeling great about the Afro Asian Games. But th CM must show the arrangements to be far better than Olympics. Then only his dream Olympics will also come into being.

What\'s wrong with \'purchasing\' players? If we don\'t have quality players, we lure players from other states.
<br>
<br>
This helps sport in two ways:
<br>
1. People compete! Competetion is what is lacking in India. If there is competition then the quality players shine. That will be a big boost to the game itself. A simple example: India produces top quality boxers in the batam weight and medium weight category. They represent India in various competitions and earn medals, but how much money do they earn? Nil. That\'s why most boxers who earn International recognition (medals) run away from India to other countries where they can make loads of money! One such example is Gurucharan singh (This guy narrowly missed the olympic silver). He escaped to the US. There are several others like him who escaped to other countries. In India, only cricketers make money. All other games they play for pride, no money. So if we give them money, they\'ll work even harder and earn more medals for the country.
<br>
2. If AP is luring players from other states, what will happen to the state players? They feel dejected, angry and hopeless. The question everyone asks is why were they not preferred? This has only one answer. They are not as qualified or capable as players from other states. If they understand this, then they\'ll strive hard and perform better.
<br>
<br>
Competition, pride and more importantly it\'s the MONEY that drives a sports person and the game gets a big boost.

Brother, our state Players who played at the National and International levels were not given a chance in the National Games. Some of them are presently working as daily wage labourers. You know that fact. I watched that in Andhravani and in the News.

I know atleast two National level players who don\'t even know the abc\'s of the game they claim they played. They got certificates by bribing the concerned officials to get into universities in the sports reservation category. This happens not just in AP but in every state. In Punjab, a sportsperson certificate carries a price tag of around 4 lakhs. You bribe the officials, participate in one or two games and then go overseas for an international competition and never return - it\'s easy to get a visa under sports category, mostly to US, canada and UK.
<br>
<br>
I know what goes on in Hakimpet games school. I know the coaches there. Bribe the officials and admit your kid - all expenses paid by govt. Get a sports certificate and a seat in a top Engg. college, scholarship and then a job! It\'s very easy.
<br>
<br>
There are very few genuine players and they get recognised if they are worth their salt. Of course, beauracracy has a major say in most competitons, but that\'s something you can\'t avoid completely.
<br>
<br>
If the players you said you saw in the news were really the best in the game then they would definitely have been preferred over players from other states, after all the CM was only looking for medals for AP.
May the Fries be with you!

Mayavi Morpheus, you have a very good knowledge on sports. I appreciate your knowledge but one thing you must think about. If we ourselves don\'t support the players of our state where is the future for those poor guys? If they are rejected in our state then other states will also do the same thing with those poor guys. It\'s our state\'s duty to give first preference to our state players only.

I would say that we should look beyond AP and regionalism. There is nothing wrong in encouraging players from other states to play for AP. Why would we want to support a bad sports person just because he is from AP? No we shouldnt, but at the same time we should encourage our players to compete with them. This is a healthy competition, there should be no ego or regionalism in this. This is what happens all over the world. What matters is whether Team AP is winning or not!
<br>
<br>
Just imagine, if these were not state teams and private clubs, instead. They would go to any lengths to see their team win. That would bring money to the state and to the team. The game flourishes.
May the Fries be with you!
