I was pretty much made an outcast in school for not wanting to be an engineer. And no... I'm not telugu. But funnily enough... when I meet people in Hyderabad... many a time the first question that pops up is, "Where did you do your engineering from?"

I donno why you hate engineering. I'm proud to b an engineer. Let me tell you one thing.....The institure where you do ur eng. is a major criteria here. If you are place in a well reputated collg then its wud b gr8. Now ...i dont say to take eng as a profession man...look at me..i'm a mechanical engineer...but now i'm a software developer...and make a note that i've been out of the collg recently this yr. I enjoyed each and every min of my eng. life. Infact i'll rate those 4 yrs as the best out of my best days of life. Just do it as you did ur schooling and then after you can do what you want in life.
Man..dont think abt all those things...you dont get these days again...eng days ROCKS man...just go for it.....

Education is not for happiness or for some enjoyment. Ofcourse if it comes on the way you are lucky. Coming to your point...Look Eng is now a days has become like primary education...no matter what you gonna b in your life...having a BE/Btech in your resume will improve its weight...
moreover you can learn a lot in Eng..you'll change by yourself when you come out of the course ...I bet it

Oh puhleese!

thats one of the biggest misconceptions held my most indians abt Engineering. those days are long gone. there are so many new areas where one can make a mark and prosper. u do not need an engineering degree unless u want to work in a field that requires it, like construction, aviation, electronics, machinery, automobiles or making related software etc etcheretic wrote:...Look Eng is now a days has become like primary education...no matter what you gonna b in your life...having a BE/Btech in your resume will improve its weight...

Sad but true. Cannot help it. They rub it on you. Even if parents do not force you, peer pressure forces you to believe that there's no future besides engineering. Finally most people do not get anything out of it. Having to get a career, establish oneself in life and all is well and fine, but what people fail to realise in the long run is if they are really happy with what they are. The point is to be happy, not to do something just because it has to be done. I have seen many talented people waste their talent by becoming engineers. What a waste of resources!!! How many people are really happy doing engineering? Please don't tell me that demographically most people in andhra are interested in becoming engineers/doctors.

I still havent got an answer to the question.
Good things that happen in an enginnering college are
If you ask me ,You graduate from a boy to MAN .,You Improve your personal skills
at an engineering college exclusively? then can you explain why the engineers have such fantastic interpersonal skills

and best of allyou'll find friends for life
these you'll make anywhere....
and you broaden your horizons.
most people say they would like to go back to school,Given an opputunity I'll go back to any "Engineering college".
I strongly believe the cliche "Engineers make the world" and they really do.

The thing about marriage to a good telugu girl... I think that community bias exists everywhere. I don't think you can single out one community and say that they're open to intercaste/community marriages. It takes all sorts...

Peer pressure is very tough to handle. It's very easy to say but, it is easier said than done. And I am not only talking abt peer pressure here, but also the pressure from within the family, not necessarily your parents.
