TSUNAMI ... Sunaa Nahin!

91 pc pass in Akkaraipettai : Thursday May 19 2005

PORAYAR: When tsunami struck the Nagai coast, the Akkaraipettai village near Nagapattinam bore the brunt of the damage.

There were deaths in almost every home. However, if the brilliant performance of the students of Akkaraipettai in the Plus Two examinations is any indication, the tsunami has certainly failed before their conviction.

Out of the 34 students who appeared for the exam from the Government Higher Secondary School, Akkaraipettai, 31 have come out successful, recording an impressive pass percentage of 91.

The performance of students in other tsunami-hit areas of the district has been equally good. Overall, 78 per cent of the students of these areas have passed.

A total of 3789 candidates had appeared and 2965 have cleared the exams succesfully.

TSUNAMI ... Sunaa Nahin!

Lake Disappears, Baffling Villagers ...

Lake Disappears, Baffling Villagers : Thu May 19, 2005

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Russian village was left baffled Thursday after its lake disappeared overnight.

NTV television showed pictures of a giant muddy hole bathed in summer sun, while fishermen from the village of Bolotnikovo looked on disconsolately.

"It is very dangerous. If a person had been in this disaster, he would have had almost no chance of survival. The trees flew downwards, under the ground," said Dmitry Zaitsev, a local Emergencies Ministry official interviewed by the channel.

Officials in Nizhegorodskaya region, on the Volga river east of Moscow, said water in the lake might have been sucked down into an underground water-course or cave system, but some villagers had more sinister explanations.

"I am thinking, well, America has finally got to us," said one old woman, as she sat on the ground outside her house.

FANTASTIC ONE !!

FANTASTIC ONE !!

Four friends, who hadn't seen each other in 30
years,reunited at a party.

After several drinks, one of the men had to use the
rest room.

Those who remained talked about their kids.
The first guy said, "My son is my pride and joy. He
started working at a successful company at the bottom of the barrel.
He studied Economics and Business Administration and soon began to climb thecorporate ladder and now he's the president of the company. He became so rich that he gave his best friend a top of the line Mercedes for his birthday."

The second guy said, "Damn, that's terrific! My son is also my
pride and joy. He started working for a big airline, he then went to
flight school to become a pilot. Eventually he became a partner in
the company, where he owns the majority of its assets. He's so rich
that he gave his best friend a brand new jet for his birthday."

The third man said: "Well, that's te! rrific! My son studied in the best
universities and became an engineer. Then he started his own
construction company and is now a multimillionaire. He also gave away something very nice and expensive to his best friend for his birthday: A 30,000 square foot mansion."

The three friends congratulated each other just as the
fourth returned from the rest-room and asked: "What are all the
congratulations for?"

One of the three said: "We were talking about the
pride we feel for the successes of our sons....What about your son?"
The fourth man replied:

"My son is gay and makes a living dancing as a
stripper at a nightclub."

The three friends said: "What a shame...what a
disappointment."

The fourth man replied: "No, I'm not ashamed. He's
my son and I love him.

And he's lucky, too. His birthday just passed and
the other day he received a beautiful 30,000 square foot mansion, a
brand new jet a! nd a top of the line Mercedes from his three
boyfriends."

Cool Quotes & Quick Thoughts

Cool Quotes & Quick Thoughts

*One of the greatest blessings we have is the ability to learn from those who have come before us. Can you imagine how far we wouldn't get without the head start we've been given from our ancestors?

** It's very easy to take this wisdom for granted and I hope this page can, in some small way, aid in preventing that from happening. Of course, not all that has been left for us bears the same message and it will always be our job to sort through it and find the gems of truth. I have included quotations that I believe are sound and uplifting.

# The people and circumstances around me do not MAKE me what I am, they REVEAL who I am.

--Dr. Laura Schlessinger

# India is the most religious country in the world, Sweden is the most secular country in the world, and America is a country of Indians ruled by Swedes.

--Peter Berger

Gossips are to be seen and not heard

Gossips are to be seen and not heard

The Eagle, the Cat, and the Wild Sow

AN EAGLE made her nest at the top of a lofty oak; a Cat, having
found a convenient hole, moved into the middle of the trunk; and
a Wild Sow, with her young, took shelter in a hollow at its foot.
The Cat cunningly resolved to destroy this chance-made colony.
To carry out her design, she climbed to the nest of the Eagle,
and said, "Destruction is preparing for you, and for me too,
unfortunately. The Wild Sow, whom you see daily digging up the
earth, wishes to uproot the oak, so she may on its fall seize our
families as food for her young." Having thus frightened the Eagle
out of her senses, she crept down to the cave of the Sow, and
said, "Your children are in great danger; for as soon as you go
out with your litter to find food, the Eagle is prepared to
pounce upon one of your little pigs." Having instilled these
fears into the Sow, she went and pretended to hide herself in the
hollow of the tree. When night came she went forth with silent
foot and obtained food for herself and her kittens, but feigning
to be afraid, she kept a lookout all through the day. Meanwhile,
the Eagle, full of fear of the Sow, sat still on the branches,
and the Sow, terrified by the Eagle, did not dare to go out from
her cave. And thus they both, along with their families,
perished from hunger, and afforded ample provision for the Cat
and her kittens.

A few things to consider.

by enigma » Sun May 22, 2005 11:47 am

A few things to consider.

Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling five balls in the air. You name them work, family, health, friends, and spirit and you're keeping all of these balls in the air.

You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls -- family, health, friends and spirit -- are of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same.

You must understand that and strive for balance in your life.

How? Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.

Don't set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you.

Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them life is meaningless.

Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live ALL the days of your life.

Don't give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.

Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us to each other.

Don't be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

Don't shut love out of your life by saying it's impossible to find. The quickest way to receive love is to give it; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you've been, but also where you are going.

Don't forget, a person's greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.

Don't be afraid to learn. Knowledge is weightless, a treasure you can always carry easily.

Don't use time or words carelessly. Neither can be retrieved.

Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

Short Moral Story.

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally he decided the animal was old and the well needed to be covered up anyway, it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. So he invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.

At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw.

With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off!

Moral: Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up.

Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up!

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

Don't quit!

by enigma » Sun May 22, 2005 11:54 am

Don't quit!

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill.
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow --
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out --
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit --
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit!

Socrates Triple Filter Test

by enigma » Mon May 23, 2005 6:52 pm

Socrates Triple Filter Test

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem.

One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?"

Hold on a minute," Socrates replied. "Before telling me anything, I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test."

Triple filter?"

That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test.

The first filter is TRUTH. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and..."

All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of GOODNESS. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?"

No, on the contrary..."

So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true. You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left: the filter of USEFULNESS. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"

No, not really."

Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"

This is why Socrates was a great philosopher & held in such high esteem. Friends, use this triple filter each time you hear loose talk about any of your near & dear friends.

One Thing Leads To Another

The story is told of a country lad who was hired for a salesman's job at a city department store. It was one of those massive stores that has every department imaginable. In fact it was the biggest store in the world - you could get anything there.

The boss said, "You can start tomorrow, Friday morning, and I'll come and see you when we close up."

When the boss looked up the young man the next day at closing time, he saw him shaking hands with a beaming customer. After they parted, he walked over and asked, "Well, that looked good! How many sales did you make today?"

"That was the only one," said the young salesman.

"Only one!?!" blurted the boss. "Most of my staff make 20 or 30 sales a day. You'll have to do better than that! Well, how much was the sale worth?"

"$227,340 and change," said the young man.

The boss paused for a moment, blinking a few times. "H... H... How did you manage that?!?"

"Well, when he came in this morning and I sold him a small fish hook. Then, I sold him a medium hook, and then a really large hook. Then I sold him a small fishing line, a medium one, and then a big one. I then sold him a spear gun, a wetsuit, scuba gear, nets, chum, and coolers. I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down the coast. We decided he would probably need a new boat, so I took him down to the boat department and sold him that twenty-foot schooner with the twin engines. Then, he said that his Volkswagen probably wouldn't be able to pull it, so I took him to the car department and sold him the new Deluxe Cruiser, with a winch, storage rack, rust proofing, and a built-in refrigerator. Oh, and floor mats."

The boss took two steps back and asked in astonishment, "You sold all that to a guy who came in for a fish hook?!"

"No," answered the salesman. "He came in to buy a blanket."

"A blanket?"

"Yeah, an extra blanket for the couch. He just had a fight with his wife. I said to him, 'Well, your weekend's ruined, so you may as well go fishing...'"

One thing leads to another.

Keep the Faith!!!!!!!!

by enigma » Mon May 23, 2005 7:05 pm

The Journey Toward Faith

When people say God doesn't shut the door without opening the window, I think I know what they mean and I would like to share it with you. When it seems like life has dealt you a bad hand, maybe it is for a reason. I have a friend that grew up in an abused home and was moved around a lot. At times my friend wanted to give up but she had a very special friend that would not let her for every now and then a ray of sunshine would appear in her life, just enough to keep her going and just as she began seeing the calm after the storm the ultimate tragedy happened.

Her best friend was killed in an accident, "What else can I tolerate?" she asked. She began searching for a new beginning, every door was shut in her face. One day she spoke to the minister of her church and pleaded for answers. She asked him, "Why am I being punished, I had parents that didn't love me, all the kids in school always laughed at me and wouldn't be my friend because I was withdrawn and shy and the one person that showed me love is gone.

I thought "God was a good god." The minister, taking into consideration the stability of my friend responded by saying to her, "You have to have faith and trust in yourself before you can see what God has in the works for you." My friend made the biggest decision of her life that day, she would gain her faith back by helping others so she volunteered at a local hospital where her duties were to look in on terminally ill patients. She found comfort in talking to them and listening to them . She was confused how someone so ill could be in such good spirits but she learned something from working there.

No matter what road you are on, as long as you have faith, the road will be a pleasant journey.

YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU!

by enigma » Mon May 23, 2005 8:28 pm

I love this story, for those who missed it, i am posting it again

The Mountain Story

A son and his father were walking on the mountains.
Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain:
"AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"
He receives the answer: "Who are you?"
Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"
He receives the answer: "Coward!"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"
The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."
And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!"
The voice answers: "I admire you!"
Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"
The voice answers: "You are a champion!"
The boy is surprised, but does not understand.
Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE.
It gives you back everything you say or do.
Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.
If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart.
If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.
This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life;
Life will give you back everything you have given to it."
YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU!

Rocking With Me...

Rocking With Me...

There was once an elderly, despondent woman in a nursing home. She wouldn't speak to anyone or request anything. She merely existed - rocking in her creaky old rocking chair.

The old woman didn't have many visitors. But every couple mornings, a concerned and wise young nurse would go into her room. She didn't try to speak or ask questions of the old lady. She simply pulled up another rocking chair beside the old woman and rocked with her.

Weeks or months later, the old woman finally spoke.

'Thank you,' she said. 'Thank you for rocking with me.'"

"Smile Again"

by HH » Tue May 24, 2005 11:06 am

"Smile Again"

Oh ooh yeah ah oh yeah
La La La La La La La
Smile again
Just smile again
I'll always be there for you
What can I do to make you smile again
Just smile again

I wanna see you happy
(I want to see you happy
Why not just let me make you smile again)

[Chorus]

Just wanna see you smile

And all you have to do is
Smile again for me yeah
(Smile again for me)

Let me be the one
Let me be the one to make you smile
Smile again
Just smile again

I can show you
Just what it means to me
Please smile for me
