What do they take us for anyway... ISI militants are asked to surrender... and Sankaracharya is arrested. A man at such a high position could have been asked to appear in court or at the nearest police station or something. They say he was about to go to Pune and then take a helicopter to Nepal... since when did helis start flying such long distances? Anyway, its very shameful.. the way this has happened.

My whole point here is that a Shankaracharya is supposed to be a renunciant and should not have any ties with the material world except for ensuring that the religion is followed properly by people (how easy that is in this world is a different story and besides the point).

The Shankaracharya should not have been involved in a mess like this in the first place. Further, pleas from so-called sadhus and sants and the political parties involved in the saga about his fraility, old age etc. are plain bullshit again because he is a renunciant and is supposed to be above age, health etc.

I've seen the video of his arrest and he wasn't manhandled or ill-treated in any way. The police was polite to say the least (Compare this with the arrest of Karunanidhi - this doesn't mean that I have any love for the thug in question).

The question here is whether a religion or an individual is above law or not. Why should a preferential treatment be given to anyone? Arguments to this (read rants about nothing of this sort happening to seers from other religions) are deviation from the question as the bias here becomes a different evil. Hypothetically, if the imam of Jumma masjid was to be arrested in a similar manner, would the VHP/BD/BJP/RSS or for that matter, anyone in opposition to the events of the past few days have remained quiet?

No not a follower. this issue has been discussed so many times in the past and I've always wondered. Some people are vehemently against him and some people are devout followers. I don't know him personally but from what I read in the news he does good work. So even if he were cheating people by doing fake magic, I don't see any reason why he should be arrested. So it was just a genuine question, did I miss something somewhere?

i am against him coz he uses some cheap tricks and impresses even educated ppl who are normally intelligent. he encourages the thot that he is almost God or equal to God.

i am not against the good work he is doing but i must point out that in most of his projects (schools, colleges, hospitals etc) the work is largely undertaken by volunteers who work free. even the construction of his township, colleges etc was done free. the doctors work free and the equipments were almost all donated by devotees. so where the hell is he spending his riches, other than maybe a small percentage. even the day to day activities in his ashram are carried on by volunteers...for free.

also if u notice, the poors rarely get gold oranaments...they have to be happy with ash that he seems to produce out of thin air (a simple trick actually). the gold n valuables seem almost exclusively reserved for celebrities or better off people who wud better further his cause.

does anyone audit his accounts? i dont think so.

why was the ashram shoot out case suppressed? what did he have to run away from the room when the attackers came in...he had "magic" powers after all....:)

wud anyone dare to investigate allegations made by former devotees of misconduct in the ashram, esp of the sexual kind?

he is a shrewd man who knows how to talk, sway ppl and make money.

his success has actually once made me consider becoming a "godman" for getting rich easy

> There is a major difference between the arrests.

That being the shankaracharya did not object to his arrest and he co-operated with the police to carry out the warrant where as karunanidhi sat in his bedroom refusing to move out.

how can u arrest a person sitting in his own bedroom with out physically carrying him out?

and an other thing about the karunanidhi arrest was if u remember exactly it was karunanidhi who was hitting the policemen and abusing them when they where carrying him out. They were carrying him out not dragging him or anything. The Blind Fat F*** behaved the worst i have seen a political leader behave.

On the day of his arrest, my Tamil roomie (who probably is a DMK supporter) called up his folks in India and spoke for a few hours.. and was sooo mad.. he kept repeating in Tamil "how can they do that to a former minister blah blah" :P

Stage managed? There is no doubt about it.. But then, he could have got the crew to his house within no time.. thats what TV crews are for - to be the first whenever there is any hot news!

Sadly, being cooperative and not putting up a fight is taken to be the equivalent of pleading guilty!!!

Day Before yesterday at 1945 hrs (10/06/2005)

I went to Sri Sankara Mutt at Kanchipuram.

Mutt was calm.

No restrictions.

Thin crowd. Thin crowd. few old ladies sitting there.

Lots of Iyer Brahmins were there with out Shirt.

I was wearing pepe jeans, Wills T shirt.

I was told to switch off the Mobile.

That was the only restriction.

I could not see the Acharya.

I could see the WAX MODEL of old Sankaracharya(Sri chandra sekara charya)

After a quiet dinner at Saravan Bhawan I came out of Kanchipuram Heavy Hearted.
