Guess he is a macha.
1)the person doesnt know Hindi or 2) even if they understand, they are not able to speak Hindi or 3) even if they reply in hindi, the outsider might think its tamil Smile
Experienced all three when I was in chennai for a couple of days.
Most people i asked for directions were able to understand hindi and english, but couldnt speak it so they communicated in sign language.
May the Fries be with you!

Whatever they may feel and whatever the reasons for this maybe...but the fact remains that non-tamil speakers do go through a lot of problems in TN. And its not just TN...there are parts of Kerala too where you'll face the same problem.

...but naturally....

reminds me of when i was working for NIIT a few years ago. those days NIIT had lotsa Tamilians employed in senior and important posts. most of the tamils there used to joke that NIIT stands for National Institute of Intelligent Tamilians

and the non-tamils used to respond that it really stood for National Institute of Irritating Tamilians!!!

... I dont discriminate in any way. i was just kidding.

I have two good friends who are tamilians. One tamil is from madras and another one is from Hyderabad. The surprising fact is they cant be in the same room at the same time. They just cant stand each other. The one from madras though he knows good Hindi just cant interact with the tamil guy from hyderabad. And I always thought Tamils stuck togather where ever they went.
But they are nice people. Very proud of their culture and heritgae.

that happens often. Tamils from outside tamilnadu usually cannot get along with Tamils from tamilnadu... the mentality differs and so does the opinion on most things.
asli_badmash wrote:I always thought Tamils stuck togather where ever they went.
that quality i rarely found among tamils. i fact i have seen quite a few elderly tamils who make it a point not to get extra friendly with other tamils coz they want to show that they cannot get swayed by regional considerations

A.) No i do not!
Things are supposed to happen the way they happen. And the reason they happen the way the happen is because you try to make them happen in a certain way and may or may not be succesful.
