On topic....my role models:

At the risk of sounding cliched and unoriginal------My parents.

My dad for his intelligence and sophistication.

My mom for her patience, understanding, love, and her ability to juggle being a good wife, mother, and career-woman.

Well i don't See any celebrities as my Role Models are they are are Attention Mongers, High Status people they didn't do anything to achieve that. I have role models who made me a better person by making me achieve my goals. Aqua is 23, and she is the best person is the world and she is like another mother, well i do call her "Mom" and whenever i call her that in public people come up her and ask how old was she when she had "Me" or "Is she really your mom"??? Its so funny.

i guess you're talking about the Celebs -- models, filmstars, etc... those kind of people dont qualify to be role models.

But most Sportspersons are not attention mongers... you could aspire to be one of them.. the next sania mirza, for example :P

Being a totally family-oriented person, I find it easier to look up to people I know personally.

I can name someone outside my immediate family, but hes part of my extended family.

My dads older brother is a world reknowned, award winning doctor who's even patented new cancer-curing devices/equipment. Despite the fact that hes a millionaire who can have anything and everything he wants----Hes as simple as a regular man working a modest 9-5 job. Hes very religious too, he prays 5 times a day everyday, and has already performed the obligatory Hajj 4 times over.

If theres anyone else I admire, it would have to be him. Hes super successful but very humble and God-fearing. I dont think Ive ever met a man like him before. He really blows my mind.

SS....I used to think I'm the ultimate narcissist. I'm proved wrong.

And Alexis....I feel a role model is not someone you look up to just because its easy to do so. You don't have a role model in your life based on the convenience of having him/her as one. Just my opinion.

A role model to me is a person who you admire for the way he/she is. For what he/she has acheived and how it was acheived.

Motivation and encouragement are important reasons why one should have a role model.

Im sort of perplexed by your post, I dont exactly understand what you meant.

What I meant was that I disagree with the way you put up your role models (if you meant what I understood). You said that your role models are your parents because its easier for you to look upto them. Are they role models because although there was someone else who was probably more qualified to be a role model, but it was difficult to look upto him as he wasn't part of your family?

I didnt say they were easier to look up to. I do look up to them for whetever reasons Id stated.

No, its not like I need some qualified person to be a part of my family before I could look up to him as a role model. Any traits I admired, I found very close to home. Thats it.

There are actually 2 other people that really, really qualify as my role models---But I'd rather keep that information private. No special reason, its just that there is always something someone doesnt want to share with the world.

A role model is someone you model your life after. It makes no difference if the person is your parent, parents, uncle or aunt. Some higher-up people who might be role model worthy have actually landed in jail thanks to their 'perfection'.

Example: Martha Stewart, need I say more? This woman used to be my role model...................and now she's looking at time in jail. Agar ghar mein aapko kuchbi milraha hai, to bahar jaake kyon dhoondna?
Is that a pistol in your pocket, or are you pleased to meet me?

don't know why people feel the need to have a role model, when i hear kids over here saying their role model is David Beckam I feel like getting sick. Live your own life, and if you feel the need to live like someone else, better make it someone you really know, like your parents or next door neighbour rather than a celeb or politician who's real face you will never see. I agree with Alexis and SS on that.

Celebs or Politicians don't deserve to be role models anyway. Unless of course somebody is in awe of Gandhi, Hitler (!), Clinton (!!) or Laloo (???!!!).

But i think sportspersons and intellectuals can be role models... you can aspire to be like them. When some guy plays cricket he says to himself "i want to be as good as sachin, play like him and be as humble as him". he cant pick a family member coz they may not be knowing what cricket is....

but you don't know that person. maybe in the pursuit of their

sport they have neglected their family, or have been bitterly

dissapointed with their life. And you don't know what's going

to happen to them in the future, maybe they'll wash out,

or cheat to win.

If you're modelling your life around someone who's life

you don't really know all that much about except what has

been written down, then you may be subject to the same

failings as their life has had.

I see life like art. sure, you could copy someone else

but that would be unoriginal, and boring.

(that said, my life is unoriginal and boring, despite

the fact that i haven't modelled myself on anyone, so

who am i to talk?)

marko, you're taking this way too seriously!!! you can never know Everything about a person.. not even your family member. as for the role models... Dravid *might* be a cross-dresser, gay, alcoholic, child abuser in his private life... (forgive me, Dravid!) but thats not Known to me.

all i would do is try and emulate his "on field" characteristics. and since i've read his biography, i'd try and follow his work ethics.

im not Copying him, its just that there are 2-3 aspects of his personality that i'd want to have in me. whats wrong in adding some positivet traits?

I shall finally make a non-spam post in a long time. My role models are:

1. Mahatma Gandhi - do I even have to say why?

2. My maternal grand pa - if I can have even 10% of his integrity, I would be among the most integral people alive.

3. My Chem Teacher in 11th and 12th - if she had not said those right words to me, I would probably not be where I am today.

Even if you mean well, Rainmaker, I would appreciate if you made no derogatory comments on my Chem teacher. She means a lot to me and I would appreciate if you understood that.

PS: I am probably being harsh on you, but I think you would understand that the reason for it is the reverence I have for her.
