abt burkhas...its the womans choice whether she wants one or not...by my undertanding from what i heard/read, burkha is not mandatory in Islam...its just a local practice. Islam requires modest dressing with covered head. i think in this aspect the malaysian n indonesian muslims follow the right interpretation. they are devout muslims and the working girls dress in anything incl western formals but keep their head covered with a shawl.



a +ve acpect of burkha:

a few yrs ago a friend of mine, a beautiful girl and a Hindu used to live near Yousufguda. Her life was hell due to eve teasers at her busstop n most other places. one day she borrowed a burkha from a friend and, hey presto...no eve teasers around. she felt completely safe n bought 2 burkhas for herself....but i think this incident is more a reflection on the cheapness of the men around than usefulness of a burkha...
