Fake Names

by SimarikSmokin » Tue Oct 12, 2004 5:10 am

Ok here we go

I really hate when people change their name to something different. I mean whats wrong with Rizwan changing it to Riz or just plain changing you name to Sonia! i mean i give out my real name i am not embrassed at all. And i hate it when Indian people are embrass of being indian, like i bet this dude at work and i ask him if he was indian he goes yeah "Yeah but i was Born here" in a squeky voice! I was Well Disgusted!

So Vat are your Comments!

I hate that too, and I mean I despise how Indians arent proud of their ethnicity and heritage and try to act like anything BUT Indian.

The name changing.....well, some of them are justified. The people in western countries cant pronounce long, confusing Indian names. Its better for everyone if they had a short and easy name.

Asking that American of Indian origin if he's Indian is like asking George Bush or Ronald Reagan if they are Irish just because their grandfathers were Irish. 8)

Lonewolf, SS was born in California and raised there too, but when someone asks her if shes Indian, she doesnt say, "Yeah, but I was born here". Who cares where you were born! When some asks a question like that, they want to inquire about your ethnicity, not place of birth. Just because an Indian is born in America it doesnt make him/her blonde haired and blue-eyed.

when did blonde hair and blue eyes start making people american?

i agree with lonewolf s arguement. and at the first place, why do people give more inportance to ethnicity than nationality

yeah that really annoys me too. you get it when people move from the country to the city sometimes, they come back and bitch about how nothing ever happens back at home. think that cos they've spent time away they're too good for where they come from.

I dont think its justified at all. These western-folk have some pretty god awful names themselves, and they gives dirty looks if you dont pronounce it right. For example: Quanteefah, Shanieneh, Lakeesha, Juaquin, Jorge (pronounce- horhaay) and other not-so-easy names. When they dont get my name right, I keep repeating it until they get it, and if they say something stupid like "let me call you Naz for short", I say "If you can say Arnold Schwarzenegger, then Nazima should be a piece of cake".

Haha. I agree that your birth name is the name you should be called. I had an Indian friend who has a difficult name so she plain out changed it to something not even close to her name! That just makes it even worse!

Fine, Rizwan to Riz, as SS said i can accept on certain terms (sometimes it gets annoying calling out a long name) and shortening it makes it easier, but it should make sense! Rizwan to Riz OKay... Rajan to Raj Okay... but Afrah to Nicole...A BIG NO!

And I've noticed that when Indian girls change their names or ask to be called by another name, it is usually something like "Nicole" or atleast that is how it is where I live!

Too many Indian Nicoles.....

very true, u were born with Indian blood, but how much time have u spent in india? how much do u know about India, bout its culture. all u know is what ur parents teach u, which might not be the whole truth.

its good to be Indian, infact great, but if u know u are.

and also in a way it adds to the confusion as well, as to how to live? the way they are taught at home or the way society taught them? i dont know what the best answer is.

They couldnt prounounce 'Sharjeel'? Must be that language barrier thing. Otherwise a name like Sharjeel would be a breeze compared to most other names......like Shrivastava, for example.

Yeah, I meant an archetypal Caucasian American.

The description you gave sounds like a Tribal American-Indian.

Since you were talking on the lines of ethnicity, I said an archetypal american would be a native. Caucasians are not ethnically american.
