The provider is Iconnect..Hathway i think or whatever...I can't download bulky stuff..like voice files..and sometimes the net is too slow to even load a page.

It is in times like these that I love my dial-up. It does not claim to give you 128 kbps or higher but it gives you what it promises - 56 kbps, and that is what most cable net providers hardly do. And, the best thing is that there is no download limit. :D

 n i thot hathway was one of the better providers.. sheesh..

well, mine's Beam cable-net n they're very good.. decent speed, unlimited d/l, not many glitches..even if there are..one call n the technician is there to check it out.. 850/- per month.. try it out..

man, the amount of free advertising im doing for Beam..

Dial-Up is good but $$$ consuming..

most cable providers set a d/l limit for their clients man, Beam doesnt :)

I differ. BSNL gives you an exclusive dial-up line for Rs 500 a month. No other dial-up charges have to be paid. :D

yeh download limits ka funda kya hai? there's no such thing here (dubai). if u select dial-up, u are charged on an hourly basis. if u take DSL, u get a 24 hrs connection, unlimited downloads. there's a fixed monthly charge.

But i think the charges for it are as follows:

u r charged for each call (connecting the fone) +10 paise extra per call and u juss keep worrying about the increasing fone bill.

And about Beam cable, i heard downloads r limited in it.

And any say on Tata landline, which says they provide 164 kbps and they give u a hep instrument, which has an SMS display screen.

Not in the Rs. 500 per month scheme. :D You only pay the fixed monthly charges + your ISP fees which amounts to Rs. 5 per hour.

That depends on the package u take :D

But i think in most there is no limit 4 downloading. i 1nce downloaded 2 GB worth of movies in 1 month

well luci wants to say tht if u pay a monthly bill of 500 per month for a line which is only for internet access (only ) u can't make call from tht, it is not like ur conventional phone line u can dial u only to the ISP no one else.

andd then u do haveta pay for the internet package "eshtra".

whaoo u need to explain clearly huh to make ppl understand[/quote]

In the US

when using dial up u haveta pay only to the ISP as local calls are free.

and when using cable u get much superior speed like upto 4 meg can downlod movies in abt 3-4hrs flat!

DSL is good too . :D

Don't use it much these days. But used to till about a month ago. About five hours a day and my phone bill used to be around 1200 a month - this was the normal phone used during happy hours.

Lucy, if i had a land line exclusively for internet via BSNL, wud i have to pay only 500pm...? :? there has to be an hourly tariff i think...

i currently use a lousy cable internet from a local provider. i plan to shift to Beam, unless the BSNL thing works out cheaper. if BSNL, i plan on an exclusive line for it, coz my mom, dad, wife n I all browse heavily, all day.

dialup is better anyday but as Az puts it, it costs $$$ on heavy usage.
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

No, CAD. The phone tariff is Rs. 500 per month, and no hourly charges or anything of the sort. But, you do have to pay your ISP. I have a pre-paid scheme of BSNL where I pay Rs 5 per hour as ISP charges. However, if I browse between 11 pm and 6 am (like I normally do) I pay zero for ISP charges! At any rate, Rs 5 per hour i not a bad deal!

Now you know it does not cost as much. Aren't you glad you know the devil? :D

uh-oh...i cant do that everyday...maybe once in a while...
Lucifer wrote:At any rate, Rs 5 per hour i not a bad deal!
it is when compared to the Re.1/- per hour charged by the cable guys.
but then i dont browse 24 hrs do i?

damn this confusion...:x

Lucifer wrote:Aren't you glad you know the devil? :D
yes Devil-saab thanQ! no i'll take some time to think over n make a decision.

Beam v/s Dial Up (even Reliance is running behind me to sell their net connectivity package...any one can tell me abt it?)
