Hill stations in AP

by marko » Wed Dec 01, 2004 5:43 pm

Does anyone know how far is Anantagiri hills from Hyd? I've found various distances on the internet varying from 90-700km.

Also same question for Araku Valley?

I've found one site saying they're near the coast, another saying that they are in the heart of AP. what direction are they from Hyd?

cheers guys.

ps. Any other nice hilly places in AP?

sounds cool, but Vizag is a long way off, no? i reckon anything over 300km away wouldn't be good for a weekend, i'd spend most of the time on the road.

exactly.

hill stations close to hyd woulod be a rarity, unless u are just looking for just hills, which i doubt if u ll find in a few years from now (thanks to granite quarrying).

n hey for 300 Km, the only awesome place i can think about is Srisailam, the first 90 Km is nothing exciting, but tghe fun starts after that. luch green jungle, ghat roads along the mountains, not exactly rain forests, but wouyld come some where close to that. a river that flows thru, a great dam and the destination, which itself is a hill station is a place with great culture and history

Anantagiri hills is abt a 3hr ride from town on the Vikarabad road (via chilkur). its not a hill station and has no facilities to stay/eat except a government inspection bungalow where u can pre-order food, if u go thru proper channels. better to carry packed lunch/water etc. there is a lush forest where trekking is possible.

Horsley hills is an unexplored hill station near the karnataka border in south AP

Araku Valley is near Vishakapatnam on the coast. there's a great scenic road from Vishakapatnam to Araku. other attraction in Araku are the pre-historic Borra caves.

...and Srisailam (hills, river, forest etc)...also a few hours ride from hydbad. maybe someone can contact Fiddler for more details about a bike trip to the place. he has been there once.

both Horsley n Araku are too far for a weekend trip. maybe a week's trip shud be planned for either of them.

Antagiri hills is boring.I went there when I was 13.There is absolutely nothing to do there. But you will enjoy the bike trip.IMO its the second best highway in AP after Karimnagar.Of course there are better roads but this one has very few trucks so its a better ride. :D :D

cool sig :)

it'd be 10 hours just to get to Vizag, unless the highway is a hell of a lot better than i think it is, and from there to the hills would take another 2 at least. :(

those places you mentioned close by sound good though.

yeah traveling alone, so after dark driving probably not a good idea. I don't think the bike would be happy at anything over 70km/h for very long. at a stretch i could make it there with enough time to explore around if i had three days. we shall see.

damn...that wud be a good trip marko! i wish i cud join u in that...but getting a few days off for me is next to impossible..and u need atleast a week off (incl a weekend) to complete this journey.

night driving is not a good idea, with all the drunken truck drivers around, all driving with high beam head lights. u can start early morning (say 5:30 am) and u'll be in vizag by late evening, incl breaks for lunch/tea etc.

the highway's quite good too, but u have to be careful when u cross towns on the way.

btw, i think that anantagiri hills near vizag is in araku valley we talked abt earlier
