as far as my knowledge goes, dual citizenship is allowed in India only for persons of Indian Origin who are citizens of other countries.

they are given resident/work permits in india and have all rights except voting rights.

...and they have to register themselves with the Foreigners Registration Office in the State where they stay.
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

On no no na! Right now, if you are an Indian Citizen and you acquire any other citizenship you relinquish your Indian Citizenship.

You need a travel visa etc to travel to India. You are a foreign national in India. You can re apply for Indian citizenship, if you can prove your links.

Most green card holders / PR are awaiting the dual citizenship rule to come in force. Once granted you can be an Indian Citizen as well as a Citizen of another country.

There you are

Residence permits are granted to foriegn nationals

REsidence permit is not citizenship

3 yrs and 5 years, every 5 yeras you need to shell 7500 bucks(plus bribes) for a renewel.

If the govt at any stage puts a clamp on some type of Visa, you gotta get out. It not serious usually.

It happens mostly to Paki nationals. (As soon as peace talks break down etc). They send a 5 -15 day notice and if the person does not leave, He is picked and dropped of at Wagah.

Inside newj ish tat, Govt working on all pros and cons, not to allow South Asian people to get dual citizen ship.

Once they work this out, they will introduce dual citizenship. They do not have to hurry do they !!! Population ka koi problem to nahi hain.

Its important for revenue sake though, as people living in Canad/britian/US/AUs etc if they become dual, there is a lot of scope of $$$ Flowing in
