WorldSpace anyone?

by JustaLittleUnwell » Sat Jan 17, 2004 5:57 pm

Hi, anyone here uses WorldSpace digital satellite radio? I've never come across anyone who does. I've been using it for the last couple of years and it's been a great help, especially since TV is so boring and life online could get really miserable (if you know what I mean ;) ).

Considering that Hyd has no pvt FM (anyone shares my opinion that this is gross injustice?), i'm wondering if Hydbadi's are not really into radio - or are you guys tripping on AIR? :) I observed that even where FM radios have proliferated (Chennai / Mumbai etc.) the content is pathetic as compared to what's aired on WorldSpace, so maybe i'm not missing much. The coolest part is the round-the-clock dedicated channels for different musical genres like Jazz, Country, Pop, Classic Rock, Modern Rock, Contemporary hits, Indian Classical, Western Classical etc. Haven't experienced such variety in radio programming.

I love radio culture but unfortunately, the best i can do is log onto net radio. No clarity, no fizz, no taste.

I wanted to know how to go about worldspace (installation, cost etc.) but was too busy (read L A Z Y) to do anything about it. Since u've been on it, can u tell me the steps involved in getting worldspace?

Hi, Net Radio can be good too if you have a good bandwidth. Otherwise, it can be painful while it stops every now and then to buffer etc.

Reg. getting a WorldSpace device, BPL used to resell them - I hope they still do. Surprisingly there are no ads these days. My advise would be to start by inquiring with BPL.

What I have is an entry level receiver device (Hitachi make) for which I spent about Rs.6000. It has only a mono speaker, but luckily has stereo 'line out' - from which you can feed it to your stereo music system, if you have a good one. Installation is no big deal - they come and install an antenna on your terrace and run a coax cable from that to the receiver. Once everything is setup - it's pure magic :)
