Is the Tourism Industry helping Hyderabad?

by Smoacking Rock » Sat Nov 15, 2003 1:18 pm

Hyderabad, now has become a tourism hub in India, we have seen a drastic change to our city in the recent past...parks, multiplex cinema and whatnot. Even our government has has come up with a great building with great architectural aspects, u can see it on Hyderguda-Narayanguda road. But, is this change good for Hyderabad or not?

Tourism according to me is: Old buildings/culture/places of worship, natural beauty, Museums/history, food, sports/fun, and most of all ......good climate. at 40-50C in summer, do we have anything(in HYD) that we can compare with Sphinx or Pyramids and that which will attract the tourists in the heat? we can never beat Kerala/Rajasthan, if Kashmir/North have no militancy problem, they will surely be ahead of use, even now, they may be....i dont know. as facts can tell, lonely planet which is supposed to be the best publisher for guides, doesnt have much to say abt AP in Lonely Planets Guide to India !! atleast for now, and i dont expect it will be any different in the future.

I completely agree with you ZC, Hyderabad is not comparative with other places in the world or not even with other places in our country. Infact I think Hyderabad is only getting 0.05% of total economy coming from toursim (Toursim is the 3rd largest economy for our country), so not much foreign currency is flowing in our city.

But this city is developing, and apart from this we have places of worship (Birla Temple, Macca Masjid), no natural beauty but a lot of man-made beauty, Museums/history (Salar-jung museum, Golconda fort), food (which is world-wide famous), sports/fun (Its gaining its speed) and many other places. \"In my view you need atleast 3 days to explore this city and mind you, you only get glimpse of these places\". And coming to climate Sep-feb is the best time to enjoy in Hyderabad. But Hyderabad is not yet the destination for many people from all over the world, the main cause for this is publicity, our government must come up with more marketing techniques.
