Reservation/Quota System in our Country (SC, ST, OBC, etc.)

by Dipak Goyal » Sat Sep 27, 2003 12:57 pm

Hello, everybody! This is my first this in this board. Well, today I\'d like to share my views on the so called quota system in our country \'cos this topic has affected millions of people like me.
<br>
<br>
I\'m downright opposed to this law, \'cos if you say that there should be a reservation for the candidate who secured lesser marks than you only because he belongs to a backward class, then I should raise a question. What about a person like me, who toiled hard 24/7 to secure good marks and is shown the door? How will be that d*** head of any use when he/she can\'t match the best of standards and ends up making a poor face of society? I\'m sorry for the words I used but I\'m not exaggerating. Whatever I\'m saying is the truth and is all out of experience.
<br>
<br>
The fool who passed the the Mandal commission (Mr. VP Singh, Ex. P.M of India) resolution long ago himself didn\'t want to get treated at the AIIMS, b\'cos he didn\'t want to risk his life with morons all around.
<br>
<br>
So friends, I think it\'s high time for us indians to realise that this would lead us nowhere, except to \"expect the most unexpected\".

There can\'t be any objection whatsoever to what you said, Deepak. But the thing is it\'s a tricky situation. The politicians don\'t want to lose the votes of the reserved categories. I am not able to foresee anything which can change the situation. But the thing is if you can secure a seat and complete Engg. (say) then, I don\'t think you will face the problem anymore, as when it comes to a job, it\'s the talent which matters. Now-a-days there are hardly any govt. jobs. So the only other go is the private sector. The businessmen are not going to achieve anything by bribing the reserved categories. If they try to follow the reservation policy, their companies will shut down as they won\'t be able to compete in the market. The main reason for closure of govt. owned companies is lack of competitive spirit. It\'s not possible to implement the reservation policy in the private sector. The day that happens, the whole economy will collapse. So, there\'s not much to worry as far as job hunt is concerned. But I think we have to bear the brunt in case of education.

Dipak, we did have quite a discussion on this topic not very long ago. Please check the board titled \"Is it high time for us to abolish the RESERVATIONS for SC, ST, BC, etc.?\" However, it would be interesting if someone approaches this subject from a new practical and logical perspective resisting the temptation to the usual talent thing. Let\'s wait and watch!

Talent is the crux. If not, then the economically weak belonging to the upper castes should get the benefit, and the economically sound belonging to SC/ST should be removed from the list.

Thanks for your views, but, Ramesh, I\'m not concerned about jobs which are going to get affected either in the public/private sector. The thing which burns me up is that it is discrimination against us, when the beggers move around with a bowl of vote. This problem doesn\'t belong to one person, but as a society as a whole we need to stand up against it, \'cos as per my experience I can get a job with the caliber I\'ve and I\'ve shown it by getting a job in TCS. But, the lean period which comes in your life when you are jobless and hunt around. That\'s the worst and a person can go to any extent or level.

Well Dipak, yes, it\'s a serious concern, especially in the case of heavily competitive exams like IIT JEE where the competition is getting shadowed to some extent because of reservations. Atleast institutes like IIT, AIIMS, etc. which are of international repute should be protected from reservations. The reserved categories can have the seats at the state level. Or else the no. of reserved seats at those highly reputed institutes can be substituted with a little bit of extra seats in the state level.

I too faced the same problem. Because of reservations, I couldnt get a seat in engg. Our house owners are SCs. Their son got a seat in engg. with a much bigger (worse) rank than mine. We are tenants and we belong to FC. So funny. I had to go about, doing B.Sc. and then MCA to become eligible for a good job. Now, he is still searching for a good job after engg. and I am at Infosys. Some consolation, at last. This is discrimination, but unless the wings of the politicians are clipped, we can\'t expect much. I dunno what\'s the way. Even if an honest politician tries to do something, his opponents will get the majority of the votes from SCs/STs and will win the elections.
