Causes for the failure of Congress & YSR in 1999 elections

The main cause in my opinion is that YSR copied the manifesto of Chandrababu Naidu by changing its names and making slight changes to it.

To believe that a \"manifesto\" has such a major impact on the voting populace is akin to saying \"humans did not build the great pyramids but some extra terrestrials.\" Do not underestimate people\'s ability to read performance versus public displays - read it as Babu versus YSR. Also do not overestimate the power of manifesto because no body reads it other than those who watch C-Span for example. The real reason is people saw Naidu\'s commitment to progress and his vision. Pada yatras a year before elctions won\'t help. A five year performance will.

Causes for the failure of Congress & YSR in 1999 elections

U may b right as far as one of the reasons for Congress\' election results is concerned. But the main reason is Naidu\'s performance. When u go to some other state and say that u r from Hyderabad or Andhra Pradesh, the next thing people over there say is Naidu has really brought the state up. Not only other states, but his performance is being talked about in other countries as well. Maybe v, as individuals may face some personal problems; like our shop may be demolished for widening, or there may not be fresh recruitment in govt(of course thats the same situation prevailing all over india). But look at the positive side. More and more private jobs are being created; and thats the need of the hour. Do u think Hyderabad would have reached this level----a stage where other states started feeling jealousy---- without Naidu. People r not illiterate. They r more informed and vote according to performance. Naidu\'s exit would put a fullstop to the progress of Hyderabad and AP as a whole.
