War on Terror!

by Setti » Thu Dec 12, 2002 3:26 pm

You might know some or much of this already but I thought
it might stir you a bit..

a.. USA supported Bin Laden and the Taliban for
years, and viewed them as freedom fighters against the Russians?

b.. As late as 1998, the US was paying the salary of every single Taliban official in Afghanistan?

c.. There is more oil and gas in the Caspian Sea, but you need a pipeline through Afghanistan to get that out?

d.. UNOCAL, a giant oil conglomerate, wanted to build a 1000 mile pipeline from the Caspian Sea through Afghanistan to the Arabian Sea?

e.. UNOCAL spend $ 10,000,000,000 on geological
studies for the pipeline construction, and courted the Taliban for their support in allowing the construction to begin?

f.. All leading Taliban officials were in Texas
negotiating with UNOCAL in 1998?

g.. In 1999, Taliban changed its mind and threw
UNOCAL out of the country and awarded the pipeline project to a company in Argentina?

h.. John Maresca, VP of UNOCAL testified before
Congress and said no pipeline should be set until the Taliban was gone and a more friendly government was established?

i.. After 1999, the Taliban became the most evil
people in the world

j.. In 2001, Bush declares war against Afghanistan, though not a single Afghani was involved in the plan hijacking?

k.. Bush blamed Bin Laden, but did not offer any
proof, saying it was confidential?

l.. Talibans offered to hand over Bin Laden if there was proof, but Bush bombed Afghanistan instead?

m.. We now have a new government in Afghanistan,
which is friendlier?

n.. That the leader of the new government is one
gentleman called Hamid Karzai, who formerly worked for UNOCAL?

o.. Bush appoints a special envoy (Lakhdar Ibrahimi)to represent the US to deal with the new government. This special envoy was formerly chief consultant to UNOCAL?

p.. The US government quietly announces in January
2002 that it will support the Trans-Afghan pipeline construction?

q.. President Musharraf and Hamid Karzai announce
agreement in February 2002 to build proposed gas pipeline from Central Asia to Pakistan through Afghanistan?

.......And you thought we were fighting terrorism here, didn\'t you?

That makes for one fairy tail piece (of you know what) Mr. Setti Bhai. I like how you (or form who you got it) weaved a nice story around a bunch of disparate facts. I agree on the first two points. That is when the train seems to derail. Remember this - IT IS NOT ABOUT OIL ALL THE TIME. Yes, the liberation of Kuwait was, partially, a case of control on oil refineries in the Middle East. It was also a ploy to divide the Arabs on perception towards the west. After all, US needs bases across the globe for its military operations. How best to accomplish this by finding a piece of land in a region where the support for US is slim to none. As regards Afghanistan, it was all about rooting-out the base of Osama. It was strictly retaliation for the reduction of WTC to rubbles. No hidden agendas, no motives. US was so damn focused during the aftermath of September 11th that they had one thing on their mind: Revenge - one of the highest order that would simply wipeout traces of Osama\'s shadows. And so they ventured. As to the proof that Osama was not a saint, you got to be naive to believe that Taliban would handover Osama if they were given proof. They know US will not go convince Taliban. That was diplomatic ploy Mr. Setti. I honestly believe that the US Operation helped eliminate training camps in Afghanistan some of which may have been feeding infiltrating militant maniacs into India\'s sovereign territory - call it the Jammu and Kashmir Of India. To say that US did this for oil is to be totally oblivious to the geo-politics, especially those that relate to eliminating evil. If the chronology shown above is accurate, and believable I might add, every single news media outlet would have picked it up and run with it. The fact is that it is too far fetched to believe, let alone imagine. What is the source by the way? Thanks.

Mr.RP Bhai. if you are regular in watching HArdtalk on BBC(comes everynight at 9pm IST), you will know the truth. and there is another program at6:40 pm every sunday , i dont remember the name.
why is US not attacking North Korea? Where is AlQeada after invading Afghanistan? 90% of AQ still active(fact agreed by US themselves). what is the difference between killing 3000 people by nerve gas and killing 3000 people by tanks and guns. former the Iraq does and the later Isreal does. then y not preach Isreal? why is US not active in curbing weapons deals between North K and Pakistan? y do the US need Mlitary bases if not to protect its strategic interests(OIL in most cases), do you realise that there is an increasing Anti-American feeling around teh world(dont listen to only CNN and FOX news son!!they are the unoffcial BUSH puppets, wake up!!). why does US worry if Irag has a few dozens of scuds? (and unsure that they have weapons of mass destruction) give the proof(not to me and u, but what is wrong in sharing teh information with UN) they feel taht it is unsecure to release information to UN( then y does the UN exist? in the first place?)

Look, I am neither trying to support the US nor advocating you to do the same. CNN (if U know anything about these channels) is called Clinton News Network. It is a liberal news media. Hence your point that it is Bush\'s walkie-talkie is wrong. Fox news, I will grant you that. I am not questioning US motives. They do want to protect their interests as every other nation does. The fact that US admits to AQ\'s existence is atestament to its honesty instead of covering up facts. They will not attach North Korea because they will take one at a time. They are the thrird nation in Bush\'s Axis of Evil. Wait and you will learn. Just as you think CNN and Fox are biased, so is BBC. In fact every media outlet is biased, one way or another. European nations are damn scared of Saddam, Osama and other islamic militants. That is beacuse they are next door neighbors to Middle Eastern islamic nations. I will grant you the point on Israel. I will tell you why though. The Jewish voters in the US will kick either political party\'s butt if they oppose Israel. But that is what every political party does. Do I support this policy of the US? Heck no. Anyway, that is my last word becaue some people lack objectivity. It is hard to continue dialogue with closed minds.

A British doctor says \"Medicine in my country is so
advanced that we can take a kidney out of one man
put it in another and have him looking for work in
six weeks.\"
A German doctor says, \"That\'s nothing, we can take
a lung out of one person put it in another and have
him looking for work in four weeks.\"
A Russian doctor says, \"In my country medicine is so
advanced we can take half a heart out of one person
put it in another and have them both looking for work
in two weeks.\"
The American doctor, not to be outdone, says, \"You
guys are way behind, we just took a man with no brain
out of Texas, put him in the White House, and now half the country is looking for work, and the other half preparing for war.\"

Setti, obviously you missed the point. Since you said CNN is Bush\'s mouth piece, I mentioned what CNN stood for. Since you are oblivious to US Politics, here is a Politics/Media 101, just for you. There are 2 main parties in the US - Democrat and Republican. The former are liberals and the latter conservatives - just as Congress and BJP are, respectively. CNN is heavily biased in favor of Democrats, i.e., Liberals. Fox toward Republicans, i.e., Conservatives. That is why I termed CNN as Clinton News Network. It was neither a typo nor a mistake. I guess you learned something today ha? As to Shaheed\'s comment, remember that the strength of a leader is not necessarily knowing the depth of an ocean near Philippines or the height of Everest in Nepal. It is about a proper application of brains and Bush has lots of that just as Vajpayee does and just as Sonia cannot or Musharraf or Osama or Owaisi or Azharuddin or you know who comes next. Bush went to Harvard. I wonder what some of us will get on GMAT. He has been a strong business leader. I wonder how many of us own a small scale industry. He won the electoral college in the US. I wonder how many votes we will get in a dream election.

Ha ha ha .. do not raise your BP Setti ... I have a feeling you fight with everybody you come across. If YOU think I am above others (meaning you), that is your viewpoint. I am not subscribing to that view point. I have seen mortals like you before. I do not worry much about \"closed minds\" for this is what they do - argue on personalities rather than issues. Anyway .. good luck on reducing your BP.

Ha ha ha .. \"unsuccesful\". I will not tell you what my educational and professional skills are. And do not worry about my subordinates. They will give life for me. And you think you are the smartest of those around you wtching some GK television. That much everyone can do. I figured your level of expertise when you posed a question on ISB vs. IIMs. At anyrate, since this is a dialogue between us, I cease to continue this nymore with a person who is trying to find himself. Adios.

This Is good,...If you cannot find Osama, bomb Iraq.

If the markets are a drama, bomb Iraq.
If the terrorists are frisky,
Pakistan is looking shifty,
North Korea is too risky,
Bomb Iraq.
If we have no allies with us, bomb Iraq.
If we think someone has dissed us, bomb Iraq.
So to hell with the inspections,
Let\'s look tough for the elections,
Close your mind and take directions,
Bomb Iraq.
It\'s \"pre-emptive non-aggression\", bomb Iraq.
Let\'s prevent this mass destruction, bomb Iraq.
They\'ve got weapons we can\'t see,
And that\'s good enough for me
\'Cos it\'s all the proof I need to
Bomb Iraq.
If you never were elected, bomb Iraq.
If your mood is quite dejected, bomb Iraq.
If you think Saddam\'s gone mad,
With the weapons that he had,
(And he tried to kill your dad),
Bomb Iraq.
If your corporate fraud is growin\', bomb Iraq.
If your ties to it are showin\', bomb Iraq.
If your politics are sleazy,
And hiding that ain\'t easy,
And your manhood\'s getting queasy,
Bomb Iraq.
Fall in line and follow orders, bomb Iraq.
For our might knows not our borders, bomb Iraq.
Disagree? We\'ll call it treason,
Let\'s make war not love this season,
Even if we have no reason,
Bomb Iraq.
ZEE: the Colossus

Hmmm… u seem to b hugely biased. U cite only moslem names when u have to say something negative. And about the GMAT score, I wud say, that English being their own language they ought to excel in it and that’s not a great job for them. They grow up hearing, using, and thinking in English. So, some of us Indians or other countrymen r way ahead when it comes to proper English usage. About business acumen, if u take up business as ur college subjects or something like that, even u can have it. And most of the guyz here don’t even go to big business schools, but have a sharp business acumen! What say?

1) give us your source to prove your theory.2) If USA backed Taliban for awhile, so what? they wanted a pipeline so they backed. what\'s wrong about that? 3)They declared war on Afganistan after they got enough evidence according to their belief, on bin-laden and taliban and fanatic islamofacists behind the world trade centre/pentagon/etc attacks They needed to protect themselves, so they did. they needed to exert their power, they did. I do not think you can be so naive, not after showing the capacity to have researched whatever you did. 4) Which countries have you seen, since early times, which have not shown their power when threatened !? 5) dont you think you wish India too was a super power and probably a bully too !!? 6) Do you think you aren\'t one now, personally?!
