US: Rich and a cowardly country!!

by Aishwarya » Mon Jan 27, 2003 1:09 am

I might sound like an ingrate being in this western soil and talking crap about US nonetheless i cant help criticising US and its policies.i want you all to go back in time and think of the economic situation of US before the vietnam war.. the stock market was down and people were out of employment,in a word-recession... and what happens after that.. US declares a war on VIETNAM... the present scenario is no different, we have a recession here again and now US wants to declare a war on IRAQ... shame isnt it.. everytime US wants to give a jumpstart to its economy it resorts to wars!

I think its important to realise that war doesnt boost the economy but eats its reserves, thats the reason why everyone in US is against the war, esp the traders.

You said it on your own .. you want the US to take care of all the immigrants\' needs and yet call it cowardly ! you being one of the immigrants !! taking what all it has given you/ giving you !!!

Moreover, if the US thinks that it has to go to war because there is a serious threat from saddam and even it needs oil, well, why NOT !!??

oh, comeon !! when did we all become so prude !! Go back into history.. any country\'s.. they all are built on war, dear.

It is not totally untrue in saying that waging a war helps the economy or atleast serves as an escape from recession. But the morale of the people definitely goes down. Ofcourse the US is great at managing the impression created to the world - and not show the actual feelings of its people. Vietnam war had devastated the morale of the US people. And so will any war. Especially this one - because the US people are more aware now that there is something wrong with US Policy too and not just with the guys on the east.

I totally disagree to the statement that all countries are built on war. It is a very painful statement. Almost every country has unfortunately seen war - but countries are not BUILT on wars. Wars definitely serve as watershed events. So significant that people cannot easily forget them. It is improper - though highly probable for people to attribute the evolutionary growth of a country after a war to the war.

This happens during the war but once war is over there is a huge rise in the stock market which takes off all the loss incurred during and before the war.

Any regime anywhere in the world, has resorted to WAR to solve its problems. To come to think of it, a WAR is a good idea for any failing regime to survive. It has nothing to with cowardice... its only the brave who can afford to fight! Now.... I am not trying to glorify the US when I say this. What I mean is a WAR is a very similar to a RESET switch, once U activate it, things fall back into perspective! As for the US, I believe whenever the Republican Government has come into force in the US, world peace has always been threatened. For instance, Truman was the first to start the Commie-Bashing, then I guess the Cold War was at its worst with Reagan in power; Bush senior gave us the Gulf War. Now... the junior Bush is up against Iraq... his pretext: \"The-guy(Saddam)-tried-to-kill-my-father\"
