Good topic Cleo – From religious point of view (Islam) it is generally prohibited to deliberately abort pregnancy after it had been created. Once pregnancy is known it has to be protected, for God has placed it in mother’s womb. It is a great crime and sin to kill the foetus after the soul has been breathed into it, i.e., after 120 days have passed since conception. It is not permissible to kill it under any circumstances except when continuing the pregnancy would lead to the mother’s death…After the soul is breathed into the foetus it becomes a human being which has dignity and is to be respected. However, there are different opinions regarding aborting a pregnancy under the following special circumstances: 1) Physically deformed foetus..2) Pregnancy arising out of rape…3) If the mother is diagnosed as having AIDS etc..- Since it is not permitted to abort a foetus, except under special circumstances, the question of who should make the decision does not arise at all. It is a great sin comparable to manslaughter or murder. In India, approximately a million fetuses are aborted every year after they are identified as females. This evil practice must stop.
