Nilgiri Mountain Railway

For travelling through this stuff we need to reach a railway station called Metupalayam beyond Coimbatore.

The train starts from Metupalayam station at 0710 hrs.

Preferably we can stay at Metupalayam.



I stayed in Nanda lodge. It was a excellent place. Next morning I went to Mettupalayam Railway station. Foreigners were looking eagerly at the steam engine train. Even the railway staff were looking more relaxed.





Train has one first class reserved coach, two second class reserved coaches and the fourth - unreserved coach. The journey is full of scenarios. the train moves with some special support system over the rails. ( see my photos )

there were so many hills, tunnels, tea gardens, falls, rivulets, rivers, villages across the rout. At each station and at selected places the train stops for a few minutes and fills water to its steam engine. I don't know what exactly happens.Please see the concerned photos.



So many honeymoon couples where there in the train. One foreign tourist was having GPS system and checking the heights at each station and important points.

Photography is allowed in this train to boost tourism.

I also took hundreds of photos en route. Each small station serves good quality hot tea. When the train reached Coonoor the steam engine was replaced with Bio diesel engine. Then the journey was fast. what an wonderful experience. Great

By the way It has got the status of WORLD HERITAGE SITE
