Shayari - 7 / 5 / 05 : Intazaar

Hasne Ke Baad Kyon

*
Hasne ke baad kyon rulati hai duniya ?
Jane ke baad kyon bulati hai duniya ?
Zindagi mein kya kuch kasar baki thi,
Jo marne ke baad jalati hai duniya ?

Shayari - 12 / 5 / 05 : Kis-Mis

Kis-Mis

Aapko miss karna roz ki baat ho gayi
Yaad karna aadat ki baat ho gayi
Door rehna kismat ki baat ho gayi
Aapko bhul jana ....
Humare bus ke bahar ki baat ho gayi

Humne socha tha ki shayad
hum hi chahte hai tumko..
Par tumhe chahne wala to kafila nikla..
Dil ne kaha shikayat kar khuda se..
paar khuda bhi tera chahne wala nikla..

Intezaar to kareiN ke jab vo aaye bhi
Bhool jaayeiN hum chhodeiN jo mere saaye bhi

Kal subah yeh zindagi jo na rahi
Tamaasha dekheNge apne aur paraaye bhi

Vo gair hai to gair ban-na bhi seekh le
YaadoN meiN aake baar-baar aazmaaye bhi

Kehta hai duniya ko chhoD dega humeiN
MuD ke dekhe baar-baar, ghabraaye bhi

Yeh kaisa khuda hai mere dosto
Khud hi lagaaye aag, khud hi bhujaaye bhi

Shikwa bhi to kya kareiN hum kisi se
Khoya ik humsafar to lakhoN rehnuma paaye bhi.

Shayari - 3 / 6 / 05 : An Evening For Harmony ...

An Evening For Harmony

Image

Basheer Badra reciting a 'shayari' at 'Harmony', a special programme of Hindi-Urdu poetry.

It was indeed an evening when time stood still and the mind was tuned to take in the beauty of literary verses that flowed in the form of ecstatic ghazals and thought-provoking `shayari'. One experienced the sheer magic of being transported into a world with place only for the feeling of love, longing and yearning for peace, amity and tranquillity and not for negative emotions.

The `Sham-e-Ghazal' under the theme Harmony, presented by Inner Vision at Kalabharathi on Saturday evening, indeed provided the welcome break from the mundane monotony, to pause for a while and look at the world in a different light and perception, and also look inwards into oneself. The reverie was broken at intervals with enthusiastic applause insterspersed with `wah, wahs' and `bahut khoobs'.

Regaling the connoisseurs as well as the laypersons were renowned poets Bashir Badr, Rajendra Anuragi and Narayan Das Jaju and amateur singers drawn from local talent pool ably supported by K.S. Chandra Sheker (harmonium), S. Prabhakara Rao (tabla), M.S. Raju (guitar). One pleasant surprise was the Municipal Commiss- ioner, Sanjay Jaju---who rendered ghazals with such depth of emotion, besides providing music direction---showing a new side of his persona.

All the ghazals rendered in the programme were penned by his father and renowned scholar, Narayan Das Jaju, and the singers brought life to the touching verses in an equally captivating rendition laced with devotion, and a message for communal harmony, love, compassion and brotherhood. Sadguru K. Sivananda Murthy lit the lamp to mark the inaug- uration of the programme that began with ghazals rendered by Varija Vishnu Prasad, Raktima Nandi, Sanjay Jaju and Abid Khan whose `Ye duniya ham sab ka basera hai, Na ghar tera, Na ghar mera hai' rendered in an inspiring style drew good response from all.

In the Kavi Sammelan that followed, the three poets recited poetry conveying profound messages in seemingly simple verses, showing their genius in playing with words. The message that stood out in the programme that stretched late into night was the need for communal harmony and friendhship between peoples of neighbhouring communities and countries.

chaman ujad gaye ek hi nadani par

dil aaj bhi uske naam se dhadakta hai

toote huwe dil me wo yaaden baakhi hai

kisi ghayal aashiq se poochlena

zakhm me isq me kya maza hota hai

dil aaj bhi uske naam se dhadakta hai

DHAL GAI SHAAM

Dhal gai shaam intezaar yaar mein

Hota hai yehi aksar aitbaar mein

Woh phool juo kissi key pyaar mein khiley

Murjha gaye ussi key intezaar mein

Duniya ki ronaqein yun hi simat gaaein

Bun key wafa nigah-e-ashkbar mein

Saazish nahi kissi ki kismat ki bewafai

Dooba hua hai Jigar hai Inteshaar mein

Veeranio key derey zameen-o-aasman per

Kahin koi khushi nahi ikhtiar mein

Dharkan mein Jaagti Jeeti Jawan umang

Qaid ho gaye hai kissi mazaar mein

Muskaan-e-Shub koi chandni thi shayad

Toota Sitara dekha deedar-e-yaar mein

Khusbo kharid lena sasti miley juo shaiki

girti hain roz keematein bazaar mein

Sham Bohat Udass hai

by Fawad » Sun Jun 19, 2005 3:00 pm

Koi tu guftagoo karoo, sham bohat uddas hai

Tum meray pass hi raho, sham bohat uddas hai

Kuch bhi tu boltay nahi, khuaf ye toRtay nahi

Main nay kaha zara sunoo, sham bohat uddas hai

Mujh say na tum miloo gay magar, mujh say na kuch kahoo magar

Sham say aa kar kuch kahoo, sham bohat uddas hai

Dekho bohat hai ranjeedah, ummar rawa ki dastan

Iss maiN na aur dukh bharo, sham bohat uddas hai

Itna hai iztiraab kyN, karb maiN haiN janab kyN

Milna hai gar tu aa milo, sham bohat uddas hai

Mana ka tum khafa nahi, kehnay ko kuch bacha nahi

Acha sa shair hi parho, sham bohat uddas hai

Koi nahi idhar udhar, saray khamosh bam-o-dar

Kis say kahaiN dua karo, sham bohat uddas hai

Kuch tu ilaaj e gum karo, sabr e khasta jaaN sunoo

Aaj kisi ko khatt likho, sham bohat uddas hai
Huaa jab GHam se yooN behis to GHam kya sar ke kaTne ka
Na hota gar juda tan se to zaanooN par dhaRa hota

Urdu Poetry ... At The Highest Level

by HH » Sat Jun 25, 2005 7:59 pm

Urdu Poetry ... At The Highest Level

Dr Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India ... To Gen Musharraf, President of Pakistan (in New York, Sep 2004)

Kuch aisey bhi manzar hain tariq ki nazron mein
Lamhon ne khata ki, sadiyon ne saza payee.

History is witness to incidents where mistakes were made during split seconds for which entire generations had to pay a price.

...

One has not heard much about the General's understanding or appreciation of poetry, but even to an army man the import of the Prime Minister's desire to make peace with Pakistan would not have been lost. What was implied was clear: Why make generations of people suffer for the foibles of successive leaderships.

The meeting ended with much bonhomie, each leader inviting the other to visit his country.

Song of the Jail

by HH » Sun Jul 03, 2005 1:08 pm

Song of the Jail- When prison opened up new vistas of revolution

The toil of poetry goes side by side with the jail’s grinding mill;
O what a queer thing is Hasrat’s (Hasrat Mohani) mind.

* ... one can certainly try and recreate what it was like to be in gaol during colonial times. Without comparing the jail conditions then with those of today, I focus on the lives of political activists who defied the colonial authority during the Khilafat and Non-Cooperation movements (1920-22) and landed up in British prisons.

# It is worth remembering that the movement promoted itself by the power of spectacular personal example — resounding acts of sedition, dramatic renunciation of jobs, professions or the comforts of affluent life.

# ... the air was thick with the legends of these leaders — Lajpat Rai, Maulana Azad, Motilal Nehru, C.R. Das, Srinivasa Iyengar, Subhash Chandra Bose, and the Ali brothers (Mohamed and Shaukat), the stormy petrels of the Khilafat cause and Gandhi’s principal lieutenants during non-cooperation.

# Families in and around Lucknow visited the prison in covered palanquins or draped carriages bringing the choicest of delicacies for the inmates. These parcels of food provided the occasion for feasts in the barracks, which went on till late in the evening to the accompaniment of much wit and banter, recitations of Urdu poetry, or political disputations in high-flown Urdu. Some read voraciously and spent a time pondering over contemporary issues. Emotional and ideological enthusiasts of nationalism, they often sounded as if they were engaged in a war between light and darkness.

# Making communal life richer and more profound was, apparently, one of the goals of the prison inmates. Motilal played gulli-danda at Lucknow’s Central Jail, talked and laughed, and read the verses of the great fourteenth century Persian poet, Hafiz. His companions were Khaliquzzaman and Maulana Salamatullah of Firangi Mahal, also known as Dulare Mian. When Dulare went to jail, a song was written in which, speaking in the name of his nephew, Hamid, the songwriter said:

Bole Hamid Dulare chacha se
Jail jana mubarak ho tum ko

(Hamid said to Uncle Dulare
‘Congratulations on going to jail’)

Na Hoti ... Na Hoti ... Na Hoti ... - "soon2bking", 'ApnaHyderabad'

Shararat na hoti , shikayat na hoti
naino mai kisi ke nazakat na hoti,
Na hoti bekarari ,
na hote hum tanha jo jahaan mai kambakhat ye mohabbat na hoti,
Na hote ye sapne ,
ye khwabon ki duniya ,
kisi ko chahat ki tammanna na hoti,
Na zulfon ki chaaya ,
na phoolon ki khushbu ,
yaadon mai unki yeh raatein na katati ,
jo na hoti mohabbat ye aansu na hote,
dil bhi na khota ,
aaj tanha na rota ,
Diwano si apni yeh halat na hoti ,
jo jahaan mai kambakhat yeh mohabbat na hoti…..
